Mr. Bush owned a share of the Texas Rangers for about a decade beginning in 1989 and has said that he was unaware of any steroid use among Rangers during his ownership.

Rafael Palmeiro, one of baseball’s leading home run-hitters, played for the Rangers during Mr. Bush’s tenure. In a 2005 meeting with reporters from several Texas newspapers, Mr. Bush called Palmeiro “a friend” and said he believed his assertions that he had never used steroids. Later in 2005, Palmeiro testified positive for stanozolol, a powerful anabolic steroid.
