Default Richard Roberts says God forced his resignation

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071128/...oberts_scandal

TULSA, Okla. - Richard Roberts told students at Oral Roberts University Wednesday that he did not want to resign as president of the scandal-plagued evangelical school, but he did so because God insisted.

I have this image of Billy Preston in the background, swaying behind the organ and singing: "That's the way--God planned it. That's the way--God wants it to be".

When I worked at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, I remember seeing Richard Roberts playing golf at 8:00 every Sunday morning. I often wondered why he was on the golf course instead of in church. Besides that, Southern Hills is one of the nicest and most expensive clubs in the country. They also hosted the PGA Championship last August (Richard was nice enough to let those of us who volunteered with the grounds crew to stay at ORU for the week). Anyhow, I guess he didn't take the vow of poverty that most preachers I know took. I wonder if God insisted he step down because he was screwing things up.

I might add, too, that my grandparents had donated a good bit of money to Oral Roberts back in the day, before he said he saw a 900 ft. Jesus and started acting insane. After that, they didn't give him a cent. I can't say that I fault them on that one.

Is that why we don't hear much from him (Oral) these days? Is he feeble, or just retired?

Maybe a little bit of both. Seriously, I think he is retired. I'm pretty sure that he lives in California now, so he's not really that close to Tulsa. I have never gotten to know Richard Roberts personally, I just shook his hand and said Hi to him on the golf course once. He seemed like a nice enough guy, but the recent news tells us that something fishy was going on.

Yeah, going to the mall is pretty safe, isn't it?
