    matclone,

Exactly, as many of the meanings of the Constitution were changed since the 18th Century.

Not if I'm honoring a fallen public servant by recognizing HIS religious beliefs.

The trooper monuments in the photo are on the side of the road, not in a cemetery. Not sure about Utah, but here in NJ they are funded/erected by the family and friends with permission of the state, not by the state.

I don't mind paying for it all, cross, star sculpture of a dragon, whatever their preferance. The individual gave his/her life in service to the public and me. I think I can afford that bit a rememberance in their behalf.

I guess I will just have to agree to disagree with everyone here.

Well I am glad to hear that me and Clone are on the same page.

RYOU the state of Utah is funding the crosses if I am not mistaken. But still what difference does it make. Like you say I think we can afford a little remembrance.

Spider I know we agree on this but what about this National Atheist organization. They are fighting it tooth and nail do they speak for a majority of atheists or a small fringe?

I guess I don't see how paying for someone's grave's religious symbol is a way to remember. They didn't do their duty because of their religion but because they signed a contract and we paid them for it.

I just learned on Hannity and Combs that the crosses are funded privately but on public land. So there you have it.

I have no idea what other atheists think. I'm not a member of any atheist organizations, nor do I seek out other atheists as friends. I just believe what I believe and live my life. I'm sure that just like in any other belief system, there are radical members who have an agenda and want to change the world, there are more conservative members who have opinions and ideas about how things should be but don't get all bent out of shape about every little "offense," and there are varying degrees of in between; and the majority is probably toward the less radical end of the spectrum.
