Is anyone here offended by Christmas decorations religious or otherwise? Do we really care that much about decorations that we would create a council to look into the matter? This is happening in Fort Collins Colorado right now and it is absurd. This is PC bullshit to the max and I cant handle it anymore I think my head is going to explode. Why cant people just ignore things they don't like when they are this small and insignificant.
It's only going to get worse, Ugly. Until the minority view learns to be tolerant of the majority view, it won't end. A small group of people who are offended by something can usually agitate to F things up for the majority.
Until the majority bands together and fights back, this sort of stuff is bound to continue. The large, happy majority usually stands by silent while the ticked-off vocal minority exerts their will.
All donations to Churches and otherwise are tax deductible. All of you can be sure that someone who is an atheist is paying for Church services against his/her will. Why? Because as soon as someone gives a donation to church and gets a tax deduction, everyone else picks up the tab for government services.
If I were in charge I would make all Church donations not tax deductible.

I'm not clear on how this is relevant. We may need more info from Ugly. I inferred that the town wasn't going to allow merchants and others to decorate for Christmas with religious icons and such. That would be crazy, no?
Its not crazy because the shops are on public property and hence the land belongs to the government. I believe most merchants rent the space from the town. Hence, since the government doesn't endorse any one religion it should not allow these decorations.
Its the same thing as a brothel. You can have prostitutes at your own home and nobody will arrest you for it. However, as soon as you claim it a business where you have to pay taxes to the government its a different story. It becomes illegal.
As long as the government isn't allowing certain decorations while prohibiting others, I don't see how it is "endorsing" a religion. But then again since I am Christian I guess I am one of the bad guys.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion...
The government is not making any laws respecting an establishment of religion by allowing any decorations the renters (if they are renters) wish.

Say there are decorations and someone sues the place. It will go to Supreme Court possibly and the Court will have to rule one way or another. That is why it is better not to have decorations.

So, bookstores shouldn't be allowed to sell Bibles then, right? Because if they did, they'd be endorsing a religion?
Your thinking is the kind of narrow-minded thinking that ends up destroying long-held traditions in this country. A manger, a cross, etc... in a store-window isn't going to destory the local community. Just let it go, and be a little more open about things.
