Thread: Funny because it's true: "partisan training"

Default Funny because it's true: "partisan training"

I recently asked my friend's little girl what she wanted to be when
she grows up. She said she wanted to be President some day. Both of
her parents, liberal Democrats, were standing there, so I asked her,
'If you were President what would be the first thing you would do? '

She replied, 'I'd give food and houses to all the homeless people.'

    Her parents beamed.

'Wow...what a worthy goal. I told her, ' But you don't have to wait
until you're President to do that. You can come over to my house and
mow the lawn, pull weeds, and sweep my yard, and I'll pay you $50. Then I'll
take you over to the grocery store where the homeless guy hangs out, and you
can give him the $50 to use toward food and a new house. '

She thought that over for a few seconds, then she looked me straight
in the eye and asked, ' Why doesn't the homeless guy come over and do the
work, and you can just pay him the $50? '

I said, 'Welcome to the Republican Party.'

Her parents still aren't speaking to me
"When a true genius appears in the world, you may know him by this sign, that the dunces are all in a confederacy against him."

If that is a true story that is awsome. It is like a light went on in her head. She thought why would I do the work for someone else to reap the benefit without doing the work, she then came to a logical conclusion, if the man wants something why doesnt he do the work himself. That is great.

We should remember "If you're young and not liberal, you have no heart. If you're old and not conservative, you have no mind." -Winston Churchill

Does this mean you have no heart, Ugly?

Assuming the quote is accurate (it may be, but I wouldn't assume so), do you suppose the terms liberal and conservative held any different meanings to Churchill than they would to us today? Otherwise, about this quote, I would say there is a glaring absence of context.

I hate to admit it but clone is actually right about the quote being incorrect.

    It is actually

?If you're not a liberal at twenty you have no heart, if you're not a conservative at forty you have no brain.?

The quote refers to the way most people evolve politically over time. When we are young we are more idealistic and see the world differently. We think more with our emotions than we do logically or rationally. This young girl thinking with her heart when she made her initial statements but after she was given a choice she started to think logically.

I think the quote still holds true today. Young people still think emotionally and older people think rationally.

On whether or not I have a heart. I think we would have to define young first. I am near 30 and have lived a fairly interesting and rough life. I would say that when I was young in my teens and early twenties I was more driven by emotion and now I am driven by logic and ration not to mention reality. So yes I have a heart I just dont let it run my life.

I was actually wondering whether Churchill said anything of the sort, but, if he did, yes, it's important to get the quote right.
