Those numbers are divorce rates in America. Why Bonnie are you surprised my parents are decent and moral people?

The current US divorce rate is approximately 50% of marriages. That is, about 1 in 2 marriages can be expected to end in divorce proceedings. Approximately 60% of the American population is married, and as many as half of these marriages will last at least 15 years. The median length of a marriage that ends in divorce in the United States is a little under 8 years. It is estimated that on average, it takes a full year between divorce proceedings beginning and the court granting the petition. Approximately 20 million Americans are currently divorced.

That is still subjective. You are assuming that everyone values marriage and thinks that keeping a marriage intact is a moral deed. As your numbers indicate, there is some amount of people who don't value marriage like you do, thus they don't think it immoral to end it. They see no problem with the numbers you've cited. Those who consider marriage something you shouldn't break, they would have a problem with those numbers. The whole morality issue is subjective and different for everybody.

As for the number of marriages ending in divorce, I remember our church counselor telling us that those numbers are misleading. That divorce rate was taken as the number of divorces each year and comparing that to the number of marriages in each year. That is misleading because his research showed that a large amount of those divorces were from marriages that had occurred 20-30 years earlier. The research showed that the divorce rate was much lower if marriages were followed individually. This showed that older people were getting divorced at half the rate that younger people were getting married.

Maybe Big is equating morality with staying married in a tongue-in-cheek Romney kind of way.

Big, I should have put a smiley on my post - I was just trying to harass you for coming up with specific percents on who was more moral. I don't think Evangelicals in general are any more moral than the rest of the population. I think that many of them are good people and all of them are human, just like the rest of the world.
