If I had experiences that could only be explained by the existence of God, it definitely could affect my beliefs; but as I said above, I can't just decide to believe because I'd like to, I need to be convinced.

I totally understand. However some folks are open to receiving new experiences while others are not. It really does have a lot to do with your viewpoint. People not interested in them will generally not have them. However sometimes you find people who were strictly materialists having life changing experiences:

I have also found that some people no matter what happens to them, are & will continue to be materialists & will justify whatever experience they have had a merely a part of their physiology. Others when confronted with them, chose to deny them or just throw up their hands & say "I don't know" or "I don't want to know".

I have had enough experiences that no one could explain when I was younger that I pursued it until I found the explanation. And once I had the explanation I as able to replicate those experiences & then demonstrate certain abilities over & over again.

The senior thing IS intention. Do you want to know? & then persistence...

I completely agree with your idea that people should seek out the answers. That is how I became a Christian. I used to go through life thinking things were the way they were "just because". Then, not sure why, but one day I questioned why things were the way they were. The theory that two stars collided and made all of this didn't seem to make any sense at all. When I looked at just the complexity of plant life and everything that goes on, I started realizing that this was no accident. And plant life is pretty simple and basic compared to humans and creatures and air, water and how everything works together to make everything else work. I simply could not believe it was an accident. I didn't just jump right into Christianity, but I definitely knew then that there was a higher power. The Bible makes the most sense to me and I see it being lived out every single day. It foreshadows everything that is going to happen and it is happening, IMO.

People can believe whatever they want to believe, I just don't understand why some people get so upset that someone else believes in God. People can fly a freakin' Michigan flag on public ground without a hassle, so why can't someone erect a cross? We all know that a Michigan flag is much more offensive.

There is a world of difference between what people believe (none of my business and I could care less) and what they do on public, taxpayer owned property. Whether or not one is offended by a Michigan flag, we can all agree that Michigan exists. The beliefs represented by a cross are a matter of faith, not fact, and a faith not shared by all of the owners of the public property.
