Re: Isn't it amazing how tiny East Germany used to whip American butt at Olympics?
Not so amazing when you think about it:
"For a small country, the people of East Germany achieved some remarkable results in many sports including cycling, weightlifting, swimming, track and field, boxing, skating and other winter sports. One reason for the success was started with late 1960s leadership of Dr. Manfred Hoeppner, when his policy of anabolic steroid administration to many athletes was established. This program allowed East Germany, with its small population, to become a world leader in the following two decades, winning a large number of Olympic and world gold medals and records. This success continued even after the international steroid testing policy was established. (See Doping (sport))."

The key here is they used to. They also devoted a lot of money and started training the kids at young ages in specialized sports. America had not one anything like that.

That and they were by far the best at chemistry.... from using the correct steroids for the sport..... to being the best at beating the tests of the time. Those same coaches ended up going all over the place. China used them for a while but they lost their "masking" edge (probably because they didn't have all that state money and lab facilities), and China sports paid the price for a awhile.

FWIW, even back then the various comics used to do jokes about the drugs the East Germans (especially the women) took. And this was 'way' before it was figured out that almost everybody is doing it (especially in the big bucks sports) to one extent or another.

Let the back peddling begin. Are you really going to throw the soviets out there like they wernt the same as the east Germans. Please Big they had to be the worst offenders. Kids left there homes to go and train for athletics, that didn't happen in the states and I am against it completely.
