    Default The truth is Iraq War is a perfect way to rip tax payers of their hard earned money

    The Institute for Policy Studies and United for a Fair Economy has done important research in this area. Here are some of the more disturbing facts:

    ? CEOs of defense contractors are paid more in four days than a general earns in a year;

    ? Since September 11, CEOs at top defense contractors have received annual pay gains between 200 percent to 688 percent;

    ? Between 2002 and 2006, the seven highest paid defense contractor CEOs made nearly $500 million - General Dyanmics' CEO, Nicholas Chabraja, alone was paid $97.9 million, averaging $19.6 million per year. (David Lesar of Halliburton pocketed a mere $16 million per year during that period, and Lockheed Martin's Robert Stevens has cashed in on stock options to earn over $19 million so far this year.)

    ? Many of the CEOs profitted from stock options as their companies' stock prices soared with the increased revenues from the Defense Department.

    A lot of this can be attributed to Bill Clinton's downsizing / privatization of the military.

    But there is no doubt, these companies are taking advantage of the situation and should be ashamed to fly the flag.

    Just like many other companies that get fat on government contracts.

    Why would any of that need to be pointed out to you. It stands to reason that if we increased our defense spending by billions then you you would see a profit growth be defense contractors. I would like to see them give the enlisted another raise and a bit more substantial this time, with all the money that is being spent you would think taking care of the soldiers would be top of the list.

    The Bush Administration has consistently gone to bat for every big business interest in America (I challenge anyone to demonstrate otherwise). The profits of the defense industry at least raise the question as to a possible role in influencing our foreign policy. Just think, wars are profitable for these cos. (and can be enormously profitable), peace is not.

    Think of Cheney's meeting w/energy execs regarding energy policy.

    You would think taking care of solidiers would be at the top of the list but somehow I don't think the Administration is consulting with them.

    There has not been a war since the Civil War that has not been accompanied by an increase in GDP and wages -- war puts people to work. That is by no means a reason to start a war. But, it does happen in each war, which makes this one no different from WWII. If you think the Administration is not concerned with taking care of American soldiers, you are surely showing your ignorance. Perhaps the government isn't the best health care provider -- look at Walter Reed.

    And you are showing either your lack of reading skills, or are purposely misrepresenting what I said (or a little of both). Given your track record, I'd say it's most likely another attempt to misrepresent.

    Perhaps you could tell me what the highlighted portion means, since I was mistaken.

    I didn't say you were mistaken. I said you misrepresented what I said. You know, as in twisted, redirected, spun, obfuscated, lied.

    Then tell me how I misrepresented it. What was your original meaning and how did I screw it up?
