Well then I'm confused. Why are you talking about Congress? There was no dispute here about the fact they voted for the resolution. So you must be asserting this fact stands for something related to the war

I'm only talking about Congress because TheRick said that Congress is the only body that can declare war. I took his point to be that Bush went off and bombed Iraq without the (majority) backing of Congress. I then pointed out that Congress authorized a military engagement, which is tantamount to war. At a minimum, it's tantamount to war to the people engaged directly in the "military engagement". It's splitting hairs to say that Congress is only body able to declare war when we have people on both sides of the issue dying on a daily basis. It's irrelevant at this point.

It appears that you and I are somewhat on the same page regarding Congress. I don't believe that a Congressional vote ever "justifies" anything. It just "allows" it to happen, regardless of how good or bad the decision is.

In 2002/2003, I saw all of the protests and read about all of the protests. Just because the protestors didn't get their way doesn't mean that they weren't heard, or didn't get a proper amount of publicity.

Your explanation is clear. However, I think Rick's point (with which I would agree) is that we did an end round around the constitution, instead of running it up the gut, which would have gone nowhere.
