He was referring to Ugly's comment that was in reference to the wages earned by the soldiers. Get it? "taking care of" as in helping them out with a little more money in return for risking their lives.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think that's what Matclone was talking about.

Oh, and as for taking care of the soldiers in another manner of speaking. Are you talking about the same administration that sent boys over there without proper body armor?

Come to think of it....the patient list at Walter Reed would be a whole lot shorter if we'd stuck to winning the war on terror and never went into Iraq in the first place. (they were not a danger to us and never have been) THAT, would be taking care of the troops.

"they were not a danger to us and never have been"

If that's the only rationale for military action, then I guess we can forget about places such as Darfur, or any other place where ethnic cleansing is occuring. I know a lot of people don't have a problem with humanitarian interventions, but I'm just pointing out that there are a myriad of reasons for military action.

True, but in those cases like Darfur we weren't alone. The U.N. was backing us. Iraq wasn't a humanitarian effort....remember those WMD's they had....wait, they didn't have any....oh, okay then how about the terrorists he was helping.....no, he had no relationship with Bin Laden......Oh, yeah let's say it was for the humanitarian reason. Sorry, but humanitarian efforts are the role of the U.N.

BTW, I'm a bit of a stickler for the Constitution and from what I can remember...isn't congress the only body allowed to declare war? Yes, I think it is. Isn't it somewhat eye opening that the last time Congress declared war (WWII) also happens to be the last war we won? Maybe those founding fathers knew what they were doing after all.

Washington and Jefferson both were very outspoken about the dangers of meddling in another country's affairs. Turns out they were quite a bit smarter than that dumbass we've got in the Whitehouse now.

Are you being willfully obtuse here? Congress authorized Operation Iraqi Freedom 77-23 in the Senate, and 296-133 in the House. You can dance around semantics all you like, but regardless of whether it was called a military engagement or a war, Congress supported it.

Yeah, and the UN does such a bang-up job of it. How did that whole Milosevic incident go? How much progress are they currently making in Darfur?

I could ask the same about Korea(50 years later we're still defending the line), Vietnam (it wasn't until we got out that they had a chance to stabilize), Iraq (we'll be there as long as we've been in Korea unless we get a whole lot smarter), Afganistan (not nearly as stable as we first thought), Cuba (bay of pigs was a smashing success as is the fact that we still have sanctions against them) and all of the other times the US has stuck their nose into someone elses business. Apparently we do so much better, right?

The point being that we've never lost a war. However, we haven't been successful in any "engagement" in which we didn't have the backing of the U.N.

Korea, Vietnam, Panama, Cuba, Iraq, Afghanistan

Looks like the 156 senators and house members were the only ones that actually read the intelligence. Or maybe they were just being "un-American" as the right is so fond of calling anyone that doesn't back everything the President wants.
