Wow! Truly sad. I don't think anyone, including cops, would want that to happen to them. I can't believe a Supreme Court of any kind would allow it. But that's what happens when citizens say they don't care about politics. Sooner or later, this stuff happens. All people have to do is inform themselves and get involved. But it my be too late.

So what am I missing from the story that indicates the police did something wrong?

By reading the linked article one could easily conclude the cops had exigent circumstances to enter. However to actually understand the issues in this "narrow" case you will have to read the actual decision. Having done so I still agree with the majority ruling.

I read your link, but disagree. Yes, they have to follow up on a 911 call and they did. Why do you think they should have entered the house? They could clearly see that no one was hurt and the chick even told the guy to come get the rest of his stuff. If she thought she was in danger, why would she even suggest that and why not run to the cops for safety? I can see both sides of this, but you have to realize that the link you provided was written by cops or lawyers. They made it sound like the cops were all calm and not yelling. When Barnes said that if he got arrested for domestic violence that the cop would be in the cell next to him, I'll bet he was referring to the fact that the cops were yelling and causing a comotion, too.

I usually side with cops, but this just sounds like a couple of cops were having a boring night and decided to push their legal limits. If anything, the girl should have been charged with making a false 911 call.
