Well, I'm glad we solved that. I guess we can burn the books written by Oakeshott, Buckley, Friedman, and others.

I live in an area where 95% of the people are strong conservatives and that's what they pretty much are. Mindless puppets that are not open to any other opinion other than what they are being fed by the Republicans.

And I live in an area where 95% of the people are liberals. So what? Are they all mindless puppets, or have they formed their own opinion?

You and others seem to think that you're smart enough to see through BS, but no one else is. You think people who live in Texas are stupid, and you've pretty much written off anyone who is a conservative, by using Ted Nugent and O'Reilly as stand-ins for all of conservative thought. That would be like me saying that liberals are stupid just because Janeane Garofolo and the Dixie Chicks are liberal.
    Get to burning.

And yes they are midless as well if they aren't willing to look at both sides of the issue and make and educated decision on things. Not just its a Liberal/Conservative issue so whether its right or wrong I stand by it no matter how dumb it is.

And I think Garofolo and the Dixie Chicks are over the top as well. Listening to entertainers to base your decision on things is just as stupid. You have your own brain, use it.

BTW - O'Reilly treated Jackson with a tremendous amount of respect. Jackson had a fair share of the discussion (about 50%). They disagreed on some points and agreed on others. I think Jackson was pleased.

Jackson got his 50% by demanding it. He had to stop O'Reilly a few times in order to finish his thought. Jackson seemed kind of slow in getting his thoughts out because he was being so calculating and O'Reilly somewhat impatient with that. Just a personality difference. But at the end of the segement O'Reilly tried to get Jackson to commit to coming on the show again and Jackson wouldn't do it. I don't blame him.

    Bonnie,
Your post sounds like spin to me. 50/50 is 50/50. And O'Reilly was respectful.

I didn't say he wasn't respectful. But I don't think that Jackson was exactly pleased. I thought he was thinking it went OK but also thinking "I'll never do that again".

Of course my thoughts seem like spin to you. Spin is what you call someone's thoughts when you don't agree, in order to denegrate what they are saying.

You lost me on that one. What's your argument exactly? If you're saying that neither conservatives nor liberals are right about everything, then I can't imagine anyone arguing against you. If someone says that they are a liberal or a conservative, it means that the majority of their opinons fall into one category or the other.

But, if you are saying that there is some golden middle ground that only a few enlightened people (you, maybe?) are open-minded enough to discover, then I think you're wrong. The middle ground is rarely the right way to go, because it's often the worst of both points of view.

Middle ground is a good way to go because it means that you are looking at both sides of the issue and making an educated judgment on something. You're not just going to the extreme either way no matter what the issue is. That's the problem with conservatives and liberals. they are extreme to either end of the spectrum and that's what is wrong with the system. Instead of just being adults and working things out, politicians choose sides, try and gather as many numbskulls to follow them and screw the whole system up in the process.

I'm not sure that the middle of the road is always the best. Extremes aren't always good, but leaning more to one side than the other isn't bad, either. Most things have their place, I guess.

What I really don't like is one party bashing another about failed bills or vetoes without telling the whole story. Maybe some program or tax cut failed to pass, but why? Most of the time, one side tries to villainize the other side, but they don't tell us about the far-reaching or unintended effects the main bill could have and they don't tell us about all the amendments. We certainly wouldn't want a bill passed for funding schools if one of the amendments says that everyone with the letter 'e' in his name gets shot in the head. But, one side would villainize the other, saying that they didn't support our children.

I guess I'm saying that straying away from center is fine with me if a logical reason exists.

Skipster, talk show politics are very much like capitalism. It’s all about the unencumbered free market of ideas. There are buyers and sellers of ideas, the same as it has been from the very beginning. The political pundits and talking heads sell their bull and we the audience buys it. There are no good or bad ideas, they do not need to sell the whole idea if they choose not to nor is it required to explain the consequences of the idea being enacted as long as there are enough people willing to buy into the idea as presented.
