Thread: Jesse Jackson on O'reilly Factor right now!

This morning on the way to work I turned on Air America and they were doing their "Right Wing World - we listen so you don't have to" and 90% of the things the left wing announcers were talking about were what right wing talk hosts said about the left wing. Blah, blah, blah....

I started looking for some music and found to the Beatles "Love, Love Me Do". I was in a great mood by the time I got to work. I'm beginning to think that talk radio is bad karma and bad for your blood pressure and your disposition. I think I'll be listening to a lot more music on my drive.

That's why I pretty much stopped listening to that garbage. Either side for that matter.

Totally agree. Left wing talk radio is the same garbage as the right wing talk radio. It's sad to find that even educated people listen to it. But you see, the stations are trying very very hard to appeal to whatever prejudices we might have. Kind of like McDonald's plying us with fat and sugar.

    Identify an enemy or enemies...
introduce a situation, demonstrate one point of view and one view only, and don't be shy about fabricating or exaggerating as you do so...
in order to stir up emotions (usually anger and resentment) in your audience.

Some of the TV guys borrow from this formula too.

Funny, in my area (market) Clear Channel Corp. owns boths right and left wing stations. That ought to tell us a few things.

That's interesting. I don't know who owns Air America here. I had to laugh when they started to advertise the station - WCPT - Chicago's Progressive Talk. I don't know if they didn't know or just didn't think it was important that CPT means something other than Progressive Talk in the African-American community.

Are you refering to that special clock in the movie, Undercover Brother, that was always running 15 minutes slow?

I forgot about that, but yeah that's the general concept. 15 minutes is an understatment.

I guess it was bound to happen that these boards were going to devolve into the Mat.com boards.

Lately, anyone who puts forth any kind of conservative opinion is subject to ad hominem-style arguments, and is accused of being some sort of brainless puppet. When your best comeback (or attempt at an argument) is of the "you're from Texas, so you must be dumb" variety, then you might want to rethink your position.

O'Reilly isn't my style, and I don't have time to watch TV when he is on, so I rarely see him. But, it seems like he goes out of his way to book guests with either huge egos or ridiculous arguments. His ideal guest is a liberal version of himself, and he knows it. How popular do you think the show would be if he acted like William F. Buckley? You can argue for days about whether WFB should have his own show on Fox, but the bottom line is that he wouldn't get the ratings.

In my opinion, Bill Maher and Keith Olbermann are the other side of the O'Reilly coin. Both of those guys are smarmy know-it-alls that think anyone on the opposite side of their argument is a moron.

Are they worse than Hitler? Uh, no. Is everyone who watches their show a moron? No again. They are paid to entertain, and to take one side of the argument.

The difference is that O'Reilly just yells and screams his agruements without giving anyone so much as a breathe to voice their opinion. It got old after about the third show. Then remember the agruement he had with what's his name who challenged what he was really about? The guy that was on SNL for a time. His was all in his face, trying to bully him like he does everyone else.

Like I said, by about the third show I watched of him, I could easily read through his BS and lost interest. Its sad that there are a lot of Americans that aren't smart enough to do it yet.

And if you believe in most of the conservative opinions, you are a mindless puppet.

I live in an area where 95% of the people are strong conservatives and that's what they pretty much are. Mindless puppets that are not open to any other opinion other than what they are being fed by the Republicans. Example: Very well educated teacher friend of mine is a strong conservative. Anyways, Ted Nugent(ultra conservative) says all those things about Clinton while holding his rifles or whatever and he just eats that crap up. The day after all that, just basically agrees with everything Nugent had to say word for word like he came up with it himself. Then I make one comment about how it was alittle overboard and he goes off like ctc. This is supposed to be an intelligent person. This is the type of crap I'm talking about.

O'Reilly is one of those Ted Nugent nutbags, that just spouts off any old thing that will rile people up without much content and calls it "Fair and Balanced." Its crap all the same.

America needs to wake up out of this nightmare called conservative or liberal, listen to both sides of the issue and make a clear decision about things without having to be influenced by the Hitlers(O'Reilly) of today.

In other words, you were baiting me, weren't you? You weren't really interested in what I or anyone else had to say about the matter. - clone

Nope, wasn't baiting you. I just asked for evidence that O'Reilly was as bad as Hitler (or a horrible guy). No evidence was produced, just opinion.

Molly Ivins once said there is a strong anti-intellectual tradition in Texas, and you, once again, remind me what she was talking about. - clone

I have read many articles by Molly. She was correct about the lack of intelligence - it was her. She wrote like what you would expect from a 13 year old girl that lived for WWE. Embarrassing. Without a doubt, she was the most ignorant writer that I have ever read from - I'm being honest.
