Default Cult of Hitler and Nazi Germany

Sure he was a bad guy, torturing and killing all the disadvantaged people and Jews among others. However, the World carefully screens the fact that Hitler used the same "Freedom Plea" to attack the World. It all started with Hitler saying German minorities are being oppressed in Czekoslovakia and Poland. He said it was nearly impossible to live with such injustices. He also emphasized how the West threatens Germany's interests by laying heavy reparations on it. He attacked France and Britain because of it and he attacked Soviet Union as a preemptive measure for what he saw as a rise of an enemy giant.

Not unlike Bushisms that we hear today.

The people are oppressed in Iraq. Lets liberate them. Saddam was a threat to our interests in the region and so on. Iran is developing nuclear weapons to destroy us and Israel.

Hitler was also very fond of oil fields in the Middle East which he occupied.

I'm part of the way through "A Very Short Introduction to Fascism" and it seems the primary feature of fascism is it's extreme nationalism. The sort of arguments they made in this respect remind me of some made by the anti-immigrant crowd today (here and in Europe)(yes, I will tar this crowd). The author also describes fascism as being a radical movement (hence is distinguished from conservatism).

I'm sure there are more learned perspectives on this subject amongst this forum's members.

    matclone,

The book I have written by an Oxford professor states Hitler invoked the appeal to freedom as his main reason for attacking other countries. His enemies were oppressive and unjust to German minorities living there and to German interests. He could do no wrong in the eyes of German people with such ideas.

The mission of Bush Sr. was indeed about liberation. The liberation of Kuwait.

The mission GW and the 40+ other nation involved, was to eliminates a rouge leader who was playing games with nuclear weapons and was destabilizing a very sensitive region of the world.

    Quite different from Hitler, IMO.

If anyone has similarities to Hitler, it was Saddam.

I don't know how accurate it is but this guy in the book says Hitler attacked Poland this way:

He ordered German convicts to dress in Polish uniforms and travel to Polish territory and attack and kill Germans in the German radio station there. All the Germans in Germany that were listening to that station heard shots fired during the broadcast. After the convicts killed everyone they were gunned down outside by SS. Hitler proclaimed an attack and massacre at the German radio station was an act of war and invaded Poland.

Not unlike the elusive WMDs I tell you.

Oh yeah sure the bad guy Saddam, the same Saddam that was America's best friend during Iran war and with whom Rumsfeld happily shook hands.
