So in terms of assistance what do you mean? Do you mean someone made the money for them and they took credit for it. Or did they inherit it? Or did they steal it. Or do you mean that while the idea or formula for what made them succesfull and rich was there own, they employed others to assist them in making it work or to share in the building of an empire,such as the google boys. So which is it. Personally I dont care how they made it, I am just impressed that they did. Bill Gates self made with no college degree, that is laughable I am glad you brought thios to my attention clone.

Did every rich guy in America made his own money? Did Bush make his own money, meaning did he start with nothing and was born in a poor family? Never once in this thread did I mention those that made money themselves. I said Bush is a typical guy that was brought up in a money family. I don't know why you are goung off on a tangent with Gates and others.

Someone in Bush's family had to make the money and I believe it was his grandfather who was a banker ad then they got into oil. I am making a point about things you have said and not only about Bush. Then fact is that the majority of American wealth is self made or first generation.

Ugly for one thing, I assume all your so-called self made types had support in their raising from parents, teachers, and other adults. They didn't go hungry; they got a good education; they had appropriate role models (typically their parents); they were given not only the opportunity to grow and explore, but encouragement. All those things are critical to their success. In addition, they weren't held back because of the color of their skin or because they were born to the wrong parents. Your Horatio Alger myth takes all that for granted, but it's not a reality for a lot of people.

Secondly, of all those factors you mockingly throw at me, only one may be appropriate, or at least a Marxist would say so: other people helped them make their fortune.

I don't take anything away from any of the rich people. Obviously, they worked very hard for it. The problem is, you're implicitly purporting that those who aren't wealthy haven't worked hard enough--which is a grossly over-simplified story about life and success.

Clone what do you think Forbes meant by self made? I mean come on you want to break it down to second grade teachers give me a break this is a perfect response to Bigs critisism of how the wealthy made their money. I will acknowledge that almost everyone had some help or influence good or bad that prodded them to success.

Yes Bush's grandfather profited from giving loans to Nazi Germany. That was my point. He was doing it at the same time that Hitler was putting Jews into concentration camps.
