I'm listening to the press conference right now. It's so brazen. But don't say that it will always be corrupt, Sean. The amazingly uncorruptable State's Attorney, Patrick Fitzgerald, is also from here.
Sorry, Bonnie....just going by the last 100 years or so of history. I'm sure there are plenty of good people in Illinois politics.

There are both good and bad. No need to apologize.

Chris Christie, head of the US Justice Depoartment here in NJ resigend two weeks ago. He's locked up 115 politicians in the state over the past 10 years. He nailed the Mayor of newar and and Camden. He nailed the senior state legislator that held the chair of the budget committee and taking kickbacks from as many as he could doing business with the state. He's office is also the one that snagged the NY State Governor Spitzer. Word is he's going to run against the current Gov next November. He's a lock if he runs.

It's so bad here, the feds have to step because the NJ Attorney Generals are appointed by the
    Demo-n legislators here.

Maryland can offer up Spiro Agnew and Marvin Mandel, though Mandel's conviction was later overturned.

Nancy Pelosi's father was a long time Charm City politico, serving as Mayor, as did her brother.

As bad as IL state politics may be, Chicago and Cook County are worse. I love how the President of the Cook County Board is allowed to write $24,999 contracts without disclosing any details. The total sum of $24,999 contracts Todd Stroger has awarded is in the 10's of millions. I would be 90+% of those contracts go to friends and family.

Daley is corrupt but he keep the nice neighborhoods of Chicago clean and safe so noone gripes too much.

Stroger needs to go, and I think it will happen in the next election. He basically inherited the position from his father when his regime hid the seriousness of his father's stroke during the election cycle.

Daley is more careful, he wants the 2016 olympics so he makes a better effort to keep it clean.

I was thinking about this yesterday: Is it that Illinois politicians are necessarily more corrupt than politicians from other states? To me, it would be very naive to think so.

Could it be that Illinois just does a better job of exposing the corruption and prosecuting it that gives us this impression? Thank God that, at least, they don't try to shield their politicians from scrutiny, simply based on partisanship.

We've got Fightin' Pat Fitzgerald on our side!

As for Daley, I've lived in the city limits for five years and in Cook County for most of my life. If Daley is corrupt, it's yet to be proven. He does keep the city in good working order, brings economic opportunity here, and has done a miracle with the schools. I have my quibbles -- the parking meter privatization, for one -- but I would have no problem voting for him again.

We've got TWO Fightin' Pat Fitzgeralds in the news today! Pat Fitzgerald- amazing smoke-comes-out-of-his-ears States Attorney, and Northwestern football coach Pat Fitzgerald- soon to be inducted to the college football Hall of Fame.
