Default Hillary Clinton calls for universal health insurance

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070917/...on_health_care

Universal health insurance, not universal health care, as the article mistakenly asserts. This is consistent with the plan she proposed during Bill's presidency. Businesses would be required to buy insurance. In short, we would keep (prop up, support) the middleman, who currently takes 20-25%of the healthcare dollar.

Ever beholden to corporate interests, she is.

Yes, a very big difference, but one probably not noticed by the average individual. This would increase access, but do nothing to control costs.
Atrophy: what you get when you win atournament.

I heard she plans on paying for it by reinstating Bush's tax cuts.(on talk radio, so I could be wrong)

The government is already taking in record revenues.

Imagine if the cuts are revoked.

Well, that's what the AP story says--repeal tax cuts on incomes > $250k.

If the govt is taking in record revenues, they're also running record expenditures. You can't spend more, and tax less. That's what we did during the Reagan years, and our deficit skyrocketed (on which we're now paying interest).

You have made two contradictory statements. You are commenting on record revenues, but then imply in the second bold-face typed sentence (bolded text, not bold statement -- I think you know what I'm getting at) that taxing less won't work because spending will outpace revenue, even though you said in the sentence before that record revenues are coming in, which is under a lower tax system.

Anyhow, history has shown us that government revenues increase when taxes are cut. Taxes are a drain on businesses and consumers. More taxes equate to less production because less money is available with which to produce. I think raising taxes to try to fund a health insurance scheme is a bad idea. We will find, as we have in the past, that government revenues will decrease with higher taxes, jobless rates will increase, and government dependence (this new health insurance program) will increase.

Businesses (like Wal-Mart, P&G, or even the local grocer) still file taxes just like individuals. All those businesses will bring in >$250k. Under the Clinton plan, their tax burden will increase as well. Those costs will then be passed on to you and me -- the people who buy stuff. Some people think its OK to increase taxes on the high incomes, because they think those individuals can "afford" to pay it. But, those decisions affect everyone, not just the incomes >$250k. Those decisions affect everyone who buys from or works for anyone who makes >$250k. That's a LOT of people, many of whom make much less than $250k.

Good old skipster. Always long on conclusions and short on evidence, and when short, given to speculation, as in claiming to know what Clinton's plan is for taxing businesses. And ever, always, faithful to the ideology.

To be honest, the whole issue makes my head spin.

All I'm saying is that we should be aware of what the consequences of our actions are. Businesses still fall into the individualized tax system that you and I do -- that is a fact. Anyhow, I am no shorter on evidence than anyone else here -- I read the same article you posted.
