You can check multiple options so check all that apply. This is an experiment so please respond in all honesty. Also let me know if you think the poll is skewed in any way so I can take that into account or answer any questions.

I answered the poll but wanted to add something as the answers are BLACK & WHITE with no middle ground.

    1) I believe that the Bible reports events that actually occurred, however how they are interpreted is another story. I think many of the stories of the Old Testament have become "mythological" simply because they were written by people who did not understand that they were looking at advanced technologies & not "magic/miracles from God." How would someone from medieval Europe describe the Space Shuttle? Maybe they'd call it a "Fiery Chariot?" SEE Zecharia Sitchin, (The 12th Planet) & the History Channel's series Ancient Aliens.

I think that the New Testament actually discusses Jesus's path to Christhood and/or interaction with the Divine. I know from experience that the "Supernatural" (for lack of a better term to describe events which defy "physical laws") does exist & that some of the stories in the New Testament tell of the gifts that Jesus might have demonstrated. The Parables taught are encoded lessons for members of the school to engage upon so that they may follow in their Master's Path, undertake the Work & achieve Spiritual Enlightenment & Salvation. SEE Gnosticism

    2) It is physically possible to become pregnant without intercourse. It is called Artificial Insemination. I do not believe that the Virgin Birth is a "divinely inspired miracle." I am sure that something that appeared like that happened but the actual technology that created that conception, isn't revealed in the Bible fully.

    3) There have been instances where human beings bodies have physically stopped living only to come back to life hours & even days later. That has been documented & it has occurred so I believe that something like what is told in the Bible could have happened but lacks a full explanation in the telling.

There have also been reports of Yogis who had such tremendous control of their bodies that they could slow down the bodies need for oxygen to the point where other people thoguht the Yogi was dead.

Yogis have also demonstrated incredible tolerances of pain.

There are periods of Jesus's life that are not recorded in the Bible. There has been evidence that he may have traveled eastward. I for one think it is possible that Jesus did learn from Eastern Spiritual Masters, (like Yogis or Buddhist monks) & then later demonstrated some of those gifts.

In addition, teaching in Parables, (which Jesus did do) was something Buddha developed as a teaching tool 500 years earlier.

    4) Christians should not be banned from certain positions in life simply because of their beliefs. This is why we have the LAW as a frame of reference as to proper conduct in society and/or @ work.

Implementing that doctrine would then require one group to dictate that code of conduct & belief & laud it over another. I think that if you advocate that sort of system then you should be the first person to submit to it even if the code developed doesn't align with your own personal beliefs.

This why the Founding Fathers so stressed the separation between Church & State. In this way you can belief what you want without fear of attack, retribution or threat. It is not that way in other countries.

For example & in case you didn't know the Catholic & Protestant Churches n Germany are STATE SPONSORED RELIGIONS. They get tax dollars from the Federal Government. This is part of the reason why minority religions in Germany have been attacked with extensive Black PR campaigns.

KR I understand what you are saying. This poll is not so much about the religious belief but more about what the polls indicate are the beliefs of Americans. So when you look at the poll numbers what do they say to you. Then do you believe people should be punished or not.

I agree with what you are saying, there is a lot of grey area but we can not ask every question.

I agree with a lot of what you say kr, not all but a lot. Definitely agree that the Bible records many historical events that were viewed and interpreted by primitive men in the way they would because they did not know science as we do today.

I also agree that Mary became pregnant with a human males sperm, there is no other way it could have occured.

I suppose there is some remote possibility that the resurrection was some either chemically enhanced or yogi type physical body control but I think the simpler explaination and therefore most likely is that the resurrection is really figurative and not literal. I believe it carries just as much if not more than it being an actual physical resurrection.

I also agree that Christian, who are capable of using their reason in the real world and not bring their fictional fantasy world into the Monday through Saturday reality should not be banned from any position. Nor do I think a law is needed to keep those who cannot out of any positions. In the real world those who cannot will be selected out of those positions naturally because they will be incapable of doing real meaningful jobs.

I do not believe that all of the events in the Bible, including divine creation and all of the "miracles," actually occurred, but I do believe in many of the ethical and moral lessons that it teaches.

The question is not what you believe. It is what do you believe the provided polls relay about American beliefs.
