BTW I'm not sure what bad cops have to do with bad teachers.

I don't know how cops got into this discussion either but meh they are in the mix now. More guns in general is different then more guns legally in the hands of good citizens. I see a well armed populous as a good thing, for multiple reasons, either that or get rid of guns all together. Either let us have our guns or get rid of every gun except for police, like in Korea or China. I would prefer that everyone who is not a criminal or mentally disabled have guns.

As in Canada -where you pretty much know you will get your head blown off if you break into the wrong house -most people still leave their doors unlocked because the crime rate is so low . That last part was straight from ''Bowling for Columbine '' , I throw that in because I don't have the facts at hand to back the statement up.

In South Africa you have to put a 12ft barbed wire fence around your HOUSE! People get HOUSE-jacked all the time, forget about getting car jacked, think of getting HOUSE-jacked!
I will smash your face into a car windshield and then take your mother, Dorothy Mantooth, out to a nice seafood dinner and never call her again!

Tell me about it, this morning, I woke up and I shit a squirrel, but what I can't get is the damn thing is still alive. So now, I've got a shit covered squirrel running around my office and I don't know what to name it.

Speaking of South Africa I do not feel it is quite fair to compare the USA to south africa

Um.... Canada has very low crime and low gun ownership.

I wasn't comparing the US to South Africa, which is a pretty crazy place. My point was simply that arming citizens does not automatically deter crime. In fact, it may simply make criminals "shoot first, ask questions later". I used South Africa as an example because that's where I'm from and that's what I'm familiar with. Be interesting to hear how other well-armed countries are doing at detering crime.

PS my grandparents live in a place where house jacking is common. No joke. They've driven home to hear shooting at their neighbours house. It's a pretty scary place.

That would just cause way more violence.

Violence isn't caused by good people with guns, its caused by bad people with guns. Even if you made guns illegal criminals would still have them.

I'd love yto see some studies that show more gun ownership = less violent crime. Like I've said, I have lived in one of the most violent and gun-filled places on Earth (south Africa) and one of the more peaceful and gun-regulated (Canada). However, I realize 2 countries are hardly a representative sample. Anyone got any studies about gun ownership decreasing (or increasing) crime?

The issue with lots of people having guns is that it can make a minor confrontation turn into a deadly situation almost instantly if one or both parties are armed. There are alot of crazy people with anger management problems out there who are better off without carrying.

I don't have strong feelings on Gun Control. I have never owned a gun and don't feel the need to have one for protection, but I understand that certain situation a citizen might need a gun for self-protection.
