The earliest writings were the Epic of Gilgamesh-which includes details of the great flood and how the Gods sent a demi-god to help the poor earthlings -Gilgamesh 2/3 God +1/3 man . blah blah blah ...
You forgot the early versions of the virginal birth but that was a pretty good summary of civilization in one paragraph Russ!

I find if I make that one of my rocks to stand on I discover that SERVICE to others is the real message of Jesus & not solely FAITH

What I've tried to say in the past few posts is that the two are insepreable.

Well you said to me: so then obviously that was a rhetorical statement & didn't mean it??

No I meant what I said- please share your views with the Politics and Religion forum ("the rest of us"), where all members can discuss and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of your beliefs.

I enjoy posting and debating religion on this forum. I don't particularly have the desire (or the time) to carry on a private discussion on the side. If you wish not to share the details of your beliefs while the group, I respect your choice. Thank you for respecting mine.

Gurjieff's intent was to create a body of Work that would make people into Christians however he had no intent to a part of or create a church. His followers did though go on to create Christian places of study & communities like Coombe Springs, Sherbourne & Claymont.
KR, Might I suggest if you do not want to hijack this thread, just open a new one to share with all and see what sort of discussion we get going.

What I've tried to say in the past few posts is that the two are inseparable.

Thanks for the suggestion Spark but I have done that already & there wasn't much discussion but more of an attack.

Bottom line is that this thread is about Responsibility & I feel that taking on more, (responsibility) can & does make one stronger spiritually. It is a part of the "road out" & getting "back home" to that Divine place we fell out of a long time ago.

Might I suggest you try it again kr. It is highly possible those that overtly attacked you are no longer among is. I am interested in your positions. If they are true, I will be able to analyze them and determine if they are scientifically valid. If not, I will just chalk it up to someone having faith in something that helps them cope with the world around them but is only good for those people it helps. You see, even though I know a lot of the stories in the Bible are myths and are not supportable and never really happened, I know for some people those myths are comforting and make their lives and their worlds better and I do not begrudge them that comfort.
