But, it will help to stabilize a very dangerous region of the world.

To be very optimistic... if a new Iraq prospers culturally and economically, maybe other countries in the region use it as a model of success.

    If we lose, what happens?
If we "lose" the Sheiks fight it out amongst themselves and a new Hussein emerges who will be pro-Iranian. No big deal really except Iraqi oil will be in Iranian hands.

Then maybe we do what should have been done before we invaded Iraq. We chase terrorist that pose a threat to America to the ends of the earth and take them out. If they are in the northern tribal region of Pakistan then that is where they will be buried. Hit them where they are, not get bogged down where they were not. Had we focused on Afganistan and not Iraq we would have a much better handle on the situation. Our continued presence in Iraq is solving nothing, it is spreading our resources to thin, and is fanning the flames of extremism instead of extinguishing them.

How and why we are in Iraq is a whole different story.

I problem is that we are fighting a war on "terror", not against a country and its military.

How do you fight a fundamental religious movement? I don't really know. I was hoping the leaders of our nation knew, but I won't say they are doing a very good job.

It's easy to play Monday morning quarterback and say what we should have done.

Back when Saddam was playing games with the UN inspectors and intelligent agencies from several different countries were saying he had or was trying to get nukes, the invasion didn't seem like a bad idea.

But all of this does erase the threat of radical Islam.

We achieved the mission goals of assuring the nation that Saddam had no WMDs and taking Saddam out of power years ago.

Let Delta and other spec ops groups hunt down the terrorists working with their counterparts from our allies. This is their mission. Let them do it. We wil never destroy terrorism using conventional means.

True, but in the process we did a lot of damage and removed the government.

The hard part has been forming a new government that is fair to all Iraqis. Also, forming a new military/police force to keep order.

Most Iraqis have been helpful and many have given their own lives in hopes to build a better nation for themselves.

Unfortunately, a minority of fanatics have done eveything they can think of to keep chaos in Iraq. (destroying mosques, killing police, killing government officials, discouraging people from voting etc.)

    I agree again.

I'm certain the spec ops are doing everything in their power to hunt down terrorists. It hardly makes headlines anymore, but every once in awhile you hear of most wanted terrorist that we take out.

As for fighting terrorism with conventional means, that stop when we toppled Saddam.

Most of the soldiers there today act as police. They are maintaining order, not shooting things up. They mostly guard things like supply conveys and government buildings. They also train Iraqis to be their own police force.
