    Default Hooray euro socialism

The stock market is down because of the fantastic socialist ideals of europe. Ireland is the latest country to claim bankruptcy with portugal not far behind. Have we learned yet that there model is not working. Should we continue to try and adopt their government pays for everything standards? Or should we get back to doing it the we've always done it, the way that works.

It seems obvious, yet some still think something will change. Utopia is a myth. The only people who benefit from socialism or communism are those in charge. I agree with you, when will everyone else realize it?

The corruption and greed demonstrated in our country in recent years sure hasn't helped the global economy all that much.

"The way we've always done it" sure ain't no Utopia either.

"The corruption and greed" If you take a hard look at the economic collapse, those on Wall Street were taking advantage of an emerging market - sub prime home mortgages. When the sub primes started to fail, some in the business saw an opportunity to make more cash betting there would be a tsunami of foreclosures. HOWWWWWWEVER..............

The crux of the problem was the sub prime loans in the first place....and what was the subprime market? It was a government sponsored socialist initiative spearheaded by Pres Clinton in 1998 to enable people that couldn't afford to buy a home the opportunity to do so. It was facilitated by The Fed by dropping the interest rate to banks to 1% enabling them to issue variable rate loans THE BANKING INDUSTRY new would go into failure as soon as The Fed raised interested again which they did. Why did they agree to issue a bad loan plan? The Federal committee on banking and finance basically guaranteed the loans through Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. When The Fed rate hit 4% the loans were renewing at 7%, almost doubling the monthly mortgage payment.

So my friend, the corruption and greed that buoyed the global failure was in fact that bastard stepchild of the US government.
Life's not the breaths you take, the breathing in and out that gets you through the day ain't what it's all about. It's the moments that take your breath away.

You certainly aren't going to hear me argue against fiscal responsibility.

However, you guys pointing fingers at "them", "they", "those socialists" etc. is nothing but unproductive partisan spin.

If you believe the reason for our current recession is our government's (Democrat) socialist/communist policies, then you got fool by someone.

You need to take your understanding to the next level. Quit being lazy by allowing someone else to think for you.

The Democrat Party is not only to blame. I have said multiple times on this site that the Republicans were terrible in the bush era, that is a fact. But now we need to get past that and reduce spending. It does nobody any good to say " the republicans spent all this money before we could". Like it isnt fair that now that they are in charge they cant spend like crazy.

The simple fact is that the Obama administration has referenced his fondness for euro socialism but we see that it is not working..

Are you suggesting that socialism does work? With European economies collapsing and the people rioting, why would we want to move in that direction? Government health care is a step towards it and wanting to stop it now, I think, is a wise decision. I didn't agree with the auto bailouts, either. Bush did that and he explained why in in his book, but it doesn't make it right.

I will not pretend to completely understand the global economy, but it doesn't look like governments around the world are very good at understanding it either. When you have more government employees and government programs to pay for than the money you have to pay it, it can't last. We need to change something and it's going to require a sacrifice from all of us to do it. In the long run, I think getting government out of lives and letting individuals decide how to spend their money will work out better. But, then again, I do admit that I have a whole lot of confidence in individuals over government in almost every case.
