    Yes and no.

I intend to major in philosophy and will have completed all the requirements by next spring. I dont want them to graduate me until i write a thesis (they automatically graduate you when you complete your major here at UW), so i'm waiting until i say i am done to declare my major. This might be a problem if i apply to grad schools, and in that case i'll declare after also declaring i'm going for bio-chemistry .

I heard of the same story happening at harvard.

You want to write a thesis?

Based on your comment about the story, I suspect it is a story (I should have known better, but the Des Moines Register published it straight).

who knows, the person who told me about it could have heard it wrong. Philosophy professors can be a quirky bunch and would be the first to pull something like that, i just could never see someone asking a question as vague as "why?"

It sounds very much like a joke that has made the rounds of philosophy departments, to be pulled out on the unsuspecting or the humorless, including newspaper reporters. The professor in question was retiring or had retired, and they were doing a feature on him--this quirky, eccentric professor. As I recall from his picture, he wore a big s---eating grin.

OK stiffy, your first Plato assignment.

How would Plato answer this hypothetical question?

picked up my books yesterday and I wound up buying an anthology on Plato that was thicker than my old calc text. It should be a fun semester.

Sounds challenging. I'd like to have the time to take a class like that.

But I am going back to school for the first time since I got my BA a bazillion years ago. I'm taking a photography class - it's every Sunday until December from 9am til 2:30pm. I needed to do it because although I am an illustrator, the art department of my company has a decent camera that we use for small projects. I have been doing some tabletop photography and have been getting more and more requests. There's just so much I don't know about lighting and some of the products are tricky- packaging with spot varnishes and specialty papers, etc.
I don't know if I'll use it much for wrestling, DH - usually I get assigned to the video camera.

if i have the time when i get a real job i think i'd like to take mini-courses (my former boss is teaching a class on american hardcore music) or audit/ take night classes. The only thing not fun about school right now, at least for me, is the pressure to get A's (even though getting them is cool).
