Default Our Money System: Banks and How Money is Created

This was posted on the other forum.
"I found this video (50 minutes) fascinating and informative. I'm not an economist and I found it hard to follow at times. I'm wondering what some of you think about this, particularly those w/ an economics degree. What do you agree or disagree with? According to the video, our monetary system is destined for collapse - it is impossible to avoid. I believe that Ron Paul said the same thing."

    My reply,
"Well worth the 50 minutes. This is the best piece that I have even seen or read on the subject. I knew pieces of this but the big picture has never been explained so simply. Thanks for posting it RV.

Ron Paul sees the big picture and undertstands how to fix it. Fair tax plan and the elimination of the Federal Reserve. What do other posters think?"

I normally would not repost verbatim someone elses material but I respect the opinions of many of the posters on here and I would like to hear your responses.

I'm not going to watch the film. But based on the opening page at the link, I'm guessing it is a John Birch, the gov't has conspired to steal our money, type of argument. I'm not an economist. But I do recognize conspiracy arguments when I see them--and find them wholly unpersuasive.

One thing about these presentations: they often present a singular point of view, ala an infomercial. That itself should put us on guard. So should a gloom and doom presentation. Without getting into the merits (or flaws) of a federal reserve system, I know it has operated, and we have not had any great economic crises, for at least 70 years

Oh, and there's nothing at all fair about the so-called "fair" tax plan (if it's the same thing Intensity has been selling on the other board). More rhetorical nonsense.

Your guess that it would be a John Birch government stole my money conspiracy infomercial would be wrong. The site does have films that fall into the conspiracy theory category, so what? Weren't you the one in an earlier post who lauded the practice of gathering information from all different sides of an issue and then seperating the grain from the chafe? If you are an adherent to the school of "I can judge a book by its cover" then I guess I pegged you wrong. This film looks at some points that normally are not brought up in discussions of the economy. I was only looking to discuss the merits or lack thereof in the film.

Sorry, I'm not going to watch a 50 minute film on the internet. Yes, I've advocated checking different sources. At the same time, I've stated many times that we sometimes have to make judgments based on incomplete information. I clearly qualified my opinion (said I was guessing) by acknowledging that I had only read the front page, so should I have not ventured an opinion at all? There's actually quite a bit of information on the front page, including the following juicy tidbit, full of rhetorical markers ("evil institution" "ruined the people" "moneyed vultures") that fairly screams "infomercial, infomercial" to me. But I could be wrong. That's why I felt the need to comment. Did not intend to hijack your thread.

This evil institution [i.e., the federal reserve] has impoverished and ruined the people of these United States, has bankrupted itself, and has practically bankrupted our Government. It has done this through the defects of the law under which it operates, through the mal-administration of that law by the Fed and through the corrupt practices of the moneyed vultures who control it."

Perhaps you could present specific arguments, or themes, made in the film, if you want to discuss them.

Yet on your JFK/Bush thread you link to the same site for people to watch a video that is 1 hr and 3 minutes long.

The cover page narrative that you quote is written by the staff of the site and is not from the film maker, the same as your JFK video. If you wish to make your judgement about the film based from another parties teaser then so be it.
