No the man who performed her abortion does not gross 70 million dollars a year. The clinics with which he is part owner gross over 70 million dollars a year. His personal gross would be a very very very small percentage of that as he and his other co-owners would have to pay the other doctors, nurses, secretaries, business managers et.al. It is not very wrong at all for them to perform a very important function for women in need. BTW, today the procedure that is talked about here would not be allowed as late term abortions are not legal anywhere in the US except to protect the life and health of the mother.

Was her mother tied down and forced to have the abortion? Was the doctor breaking the law?

Her mother was talked into having an abortion when she was 7 months pregnant by a man who owned abortion clinics that grossed 70 million.

Do you really think that that MD was some altruistic health care professional helping a woman terminate a pregnancy or some guy looking to make a buck?

Owning my own biz I know what my mark ups are & what my profit is. I also know that in the health care biz the mark ups are huge. Even if that MD is making 1/2% of his gross, (which NO ONE would settle for that little believe me) he is making about $1000 per day marketing & performing abortions, which IS terminating life.

Sometimes what is legal & what is right are 2 different things.

I am very glad she survived & that she is doing what she is doing. Good for her.

I'm saying don't paint all doctors who do abortions with the same brush. I agree that legal does not always equal right, but I dislike those (not necessarily you) who say that abortion is always wrong or that the extreme cases justify placing limitations on the valid ones.

The world is not so black & white spider and I am not so naive to think that there are not cases where an abortion could save the mother's life. I imagine that they are much less then reported but I could be wrong about that.

I just subscribe wholeheartedly to the notion that "benefitting" from the misery & death of others is completely wrong. That's a coin that is weighted down with a karmic debt I wouldn't wish upon anyone as you cannot "pay" you way out of it.

Every time I accept a fee for curing a toothache, I benefit from the misery of others.

I don't think so, although I do take pride in my frequent silliness. My point is that doctors who perform abortions, even for unwanted pregnancies that have nothing to do with the mother's health, are doing a service which improves the lives of their patients. I don't know the details of the case you cited, but the line between benefiting from someone's problems as I do, and taking advantage of someone's misfortune is often a fine one. I do not condemn any doctor who performs abortions simply because he does so, but I do condemn anyone in any field who unfairly exploits the unfortunate.
