Thread: Another victim of himself

    Default Another victim of himself

I have a theory on these "religious" extremists and pedophile priests. They are so disgusted with who they really are that they adopt a public persona that is a sham.

I could care less if the FRC dude is gay, but to be so vehemently anti-gay and profess that God will make them heterosexual with a lot of prayer and dedication to the evangelical way is the ultimate in self delusion.

As for the pedo priests, lock up those sick bastards and throw away the key.

I agree with everything you posted, but I'd also say to lock away the key for nearly all pedophiles, regardless of whether they are a priest.

This shit is just stupid. I don't know why the religous extreemist are so anit-gay. I could understand a gay politician being agaist certain laws but overall it is just stupid. I don't know how else to say it. I also don't understand why religions are so agaist being gay when the bottom line of most religions is how to be a good person and that doesn't have a sexual preference.

I should have said the same. These pedos are either sexually violent predators or will be in time.

BTW, I don't particularly put this on any political party but I do think the evangelicals in the closet make the whole group look like hypocrites. I don't think that is a fair characterization.

you are right on man.....it's too bad that a few ruin the rep for the whole group. I guess that could be said for a lot of groups.

It is no secret why Catholic priests from years ago were pedophiles. Most of the priests getting in trouble now (not all) are of the age that they went into priesthood back in an era where gays were shunned. The only way to justify being their age and not dating or getting married was to go to the priesthood.

Catholics banned priests from getting married waaay back when. That was because they were given a house and land as priests. When those dudes died, they left the land to their wives or children. The Catholic Church decided it would benefit better if that property was given back to the church. So, not allowing them to get married covered that.

I don't think you find as many pedophiles in the church who are young. And, I don't think you find them in other religions because they are allowed to marry and have sex and be men.

And I don't mean to offenend any Catholics. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm no expert on religous history or anything but here's my take on it:

The holy Scriptures of many religions have some sort of prohibition against homosexuality. The Old Testmament, the Koran and the NT all have something. So whether you think Scriptural rules are binding for us today or not, the anti-homosexual texts are there.

The Christian church has struggled through various social issues in its history, focusing on one or the other. In the NT it was food sacrificed to idols, during the Reformation it was the mechanics of salvation, more recently female pastors was a hot-button issue... now, as society becomes more accepting of homosexuality and gay people become more open about their lifestyle, Christianity needs to deal with people living what has traditionally been thought of as an immoral lifestyle, and laws starting to protect those people.

Because of the unfortunate alliance between Republicanism and Christianity in America, what is really a hot-button religious issue, has become a political issue. As religious controversies gets dragged into politics, political leaders have a hard time seperating the two.

Anyway, that's my take on it... hope it makes sense.
