I think where issues arise is when people demand that actions or behavior be changed simply because they are offended. One could probably label making demands like that arrogant as well.

Same thing with mexican-americans offended by the American flag.
Because (in my humble opinion which could be wrong), the statement the students were making by wearing the flag was: "Hey, this is America and we have no use for your Cinqo de Mayo." I'm no big fan of political correctness, but as I am now saying for I hope the last time, I believe that the t-shirts were not worn to be patriotic, but to offend others. It's all about context. I've stated my opinion on this several times now, and while you may not agree with it, I hope you understand it.

It's not that I don't understand what you are saying. My question is why do we have to bow down to such idiocy? Like I posted about Sox fans moving to New York, anyone can be offended by anything. If we allow these people to dictate how everyone else should act, then we are doing a disservice to ourselves. Someone needs to have the balls to tell them to shut up and live with it. We are in America. American flag shirts are NOT offensive on Any day.

I agree that we shouldn't bow to politically correct idiocy, which is why I think the school overreacted. I just don't think that the kids wearing the t-shirts were innocent. The American flag wasn't offensive, the snubbing of the hispanic students' cultural holiday was. Try to see the difference between the symbol and how it was being used. If you really examine the situation, the students were disrespecting the American flag by using it to demean the ethnicity of others.

I am a clear thinking American. I can see where your first couple of examples would have been offensive. But wearing an American flag shirt should not offend other Americans. I don't care where there ancestors came from. I don't care if their parents came from Mexico. They came here because they love America. To be legal, they had to have sworn their allegiance to the United States constitution. And they also had to have proved renunciation of allegiance to any foreign country to which the immigrant has had previous allegiances to. All of that can be found on google under "oath of allegiance".

Whatever these kids thoughts were don't matter. It was an American flag shirt. I am sure that some Pakistani has a holiday they celebrate, too. Should we take down our flags for them? And, did the school take down its flag that day?

Quinn, did you not even read my post or did you not understsand it at all? IT WASN'T THE FLAG THAT WAS OFFENSIVE. The flag on the flagpole didn't offend anyone. The flag in the classroom didn't offend anyone. The flag on the principal's lapel didn't offend anyone. These kids wore the flag ON THAT DAY with the purpose of offending hispanic students. It was only THEIR INTENT that was offensive.

So, if I know that you are a Yankee fan and the Reds just beat you in the World Series am I allowed to wear a Reds shirt? And since they are both members of Major League Baseball, would it be offensive to wear any MLB gear? Since these people are all Americans, why does the American flag offend them? And since Cinco de Mayo had NOTHING to do with America why would that offend them? If someone would have worn a French flag, maybe it could be offensive (if your a wuss).

If you think that offending them was the intent of the students, then someone should have told them that the American flag means nothing to Mexicans on Cinco de Mayo. My guess is that the school was too dumb to know that. I can guarantee you that if someone wore a French flag shirt nothing would have been said.

And you know what, if none of the other flags offended them then why did a shirt?

I like you Spider, but you are being a little weird on this one.
