    Default Immigration issue heating up

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/36735281/ns/politics

It is always nice to hear from someone who sits in an ivory tower as to how you should deal with your problems or who ridicules you for making decisions to help yourself and those around you. Which is what Obama is doing when he speaks out against this bill in AZ, he has no idea what an uphill battle illegal immigration is in AZ and never will. That state like all border states need to take up the cause for themselves considering that the federal government is not going to. I dont know that I agree with the bill in full but I do believe that the politics has got to be taken out of it and the law enforcement needs to be free to do its job. Clearly AZ is being overrun with illegal immigrants and needs to make a serious stand against it.

I saw that story on the news and from what I understand about the bill (probably very little), I don't see how its implementation can possibly avoid racial profiling. Of course this raises the question of whether racial profiling too much a price to pay to fix what appears to be a major problem. If I lived in a border state, maybe I'd feel differently about it. I certainly don't think racial profiling is inappropriate in identifying terrorists on airlines. If I were middle-eastern looking and were singled out for security checks time after time, I wouldn't be pissed off at the TSA people, I'd be pissed off at the middle-eastern terrorists who created the problem.

There also may be a bit of a logistical problem with that as well: only 2 of the last 6 or 8 (I can verify later) terrorist axts committed in the U.S. have been committed by someone who fits our "profile" of what a terrorist looks like; e.g., middle eastern or arab. What does that tell us about the accuracy of profiling for terrorist acctivity?

However, for many in our society, terrorism can only be committed by "certain folks." If they don't fit that profile of these "certain folks," they are "freedom fighters."

It's not for me to define, it is for society to define, which has already been done. The problem is the persistent racial element that continues to surface regarding how we define a terrorist.

    McVeigh...The Oklahoma City bomber
    Kazinski (Sp?)...The unabomber
    Luke Helder...The mailbox bomber

I suspect that if these folks met our "profile" of what a terrorist is, they would be called terrorists.

That is true Spider and I see what you are saying. However is Phoenix the police and sheriff are already being accused of racial profiling because of the number of arrests made of illegal immigrants. The reason so many illegal aliens are being arrested is because as of now nearly 50% of all violent crime in maricopa county (which encompasses Phoenix) is committed by illegal aliens.

It is a real issue in the southwest and the states have to do something.

Maybe all these politicians should just stop interfering with the free market.
