Thread: Gays in the Military

Quinn, I agree that the issue needs to be looked at realistically as well as ideologically. However, as sgallan said I'm not sure the younger generation (my generation, I guess) of soliders is really so weirded out by homosexuals. When I went to high school and university, there were gay guys in our gym classes and so on... sure there were some rude jokes but I never felt particularly uncomfortable. I just don't think spending time in the company of homosexuals is a big deal, and I would assume a lot of soldiers my age or younger feel the same.

If you are suggesting that wartime is not the correct time to make changes to the millitary, you might be onto something there.

I say the war time card is a bogus call. It makes no difference discrimination should never be tolerated. And the fact that we are in two different military policing actions in Afganistan and Iraq does not change that. Todays generation is not weirded out by this, that is a simple fact. The prudes of generations ago need to just step aside and let the new generation do things the right way.

Not one and the same. One is a choice the other is not. Gays choose to be and until proven otherwise thats the way it is. People of color had no choice what they looked like.

If being gay is a choice, could you choose to be gay?

I guess I could if I thought men were attractive. I also dont find fat girls attractive or girls that are to skinny, I choose to be with a women who fits my vision of attractive.

Could you have kids with another man naturally the way nature intended it in a manner to preserve our species?

What I do not understand is why so many people do not understand the simple truth that nobody but nobody chooses to be hated and ridicule the way that gays are by the homophobic people do. That is clearly and undeniably not a choice. I do not choose to be attracted to women, it is just a part of who I am. Likewise I am certain someone whether woman or man, attracted to men do not choose that, they just are. Why are sooooo many people so ignorant as to not recognize that?

Because it would make the Biblical condemnation of homosexuality invalid and the "word of God" would be wrong.

I will never understand why people think being gay is choice. What evidence do they have of this besides personal experience.
Personally, I like women. This is in my make up. No one had to teach me this; it was not a choice I made.
I just am not attracted to guys and never will be.

    Nope.
Is ability to reproduce 'the way nature it' a requirement for military service?
