The $850 billion figure that you used is a 10 years cost, not annual.

Furthermore, the next paragraph from your linked article goes on to say....

"The Congressional Budget Office added that the measure would reduce federal deficits by $81 billion over a decade and probably lead to "continued reductions in federal budget deficits" in the years beyond. "

I haven't heard anyone ,Obama included, claim that they have the fix all solution to health care.

The bottom line in that Medicare has about 10 yrs left in its current state. If you or the GOP doesn't like "Obamacare", then it's time to start coming with alternatives.

Maintaining the status quo is unsustainable.
Tell me, when was the last time health care costs have declined?

Never said I was for or against Obamacare, just posting some facts that are out there.

Looks like someone else finally pulled out the old calculator and added up all of the pieces.

House health bill totals $1.2 trillion
Amount is far higher than the $900 billion cited as the president?s price tag

... and we are still waiting for the Republican alternative plan.

Wouldn't it be ironic if the GOP healthcare plan turns out to be even more costly than the Democrats'?

I haven't read it, so I have no idea what it costs or what it even says. But it was proposed back in May by republicans and got no media coverage.

The article says the Republican's are going to unveil an alternative plan any day now.

As usual I can't help but mention the status quo has pretty much killed any chance I have at a retirement, and that is with the one who is insured. And with a outrageous BP myself, and no health insurance, and still wrestling live, I am likely to go the way of the Vet wrestler in worlds this year (which would be okay as long as I live long enough to finish raising Reni).

I do have the luxury of not caring anymore..... it is to late for me. Just that acceptence has my BP a little under 200 now.
I am 49, bald, ugly, and don't own a single cool thing. Kids like me though.

It might mean something if the folks in Washington actually did something about health care. The current plans just continue the disease maintenance model of more drugs & surgery.

The "reform" is actually just letting the government get deeper into your life & reorganizing things for the benefit of the insurance companies & pharmaceutical interests.

It's kind of contradictory to claim that the government is passing policies to benefit both the insurance industry and the pharmaceutical / medical industry.

By nature, the two oppose each other. In theory, the pharma/med. costs are held in check by insurance.

If that were true then the insurance companies would be lining up Chiropractors & Nautropaths all day. They don't. Not even close.

Insurance companies help pay for drugs & hence help fund pharma companies.
