Now that the dust has settled, I'm rethinking my position on the Russia - Georgia conflict.

Although it's difficult to find truthful reports, it seem Georgia was the initial aggressor in South Ossetia.

From what I understand, Georgia used Humvees and other American weaponry to beat down the independence seeking Ossetia, while the rest of the world had their eyes on the Olympics.

Reports say Georgians killed an estimated 1500 civilians in Ossetia before the Russians came to their aid.

It's fair to say Russia may have overreacted a bit when it came to Ossetia's defense.

I think who's right and who's wrong really depends on what you thought the status of South Ossetia was before the conflict. If South Ossetia was a state seperate from Georgia before the conflict then Georgia was the aggressor and Russia came to it's defenseless allies aid. If South Ossetia was still part of Georgia then the Georgian government was trying to maintain peace in their own country and Russia was in violation of Georgia's sovergnty.

If anyone else thinks there will be anything INDEPENDENT about North or South Ossetia with Putin incontrol of either, I've got a bridge to sell you.

Lets say in 50 years latinos in the SW USA decide that they want Aztlan (go google it) to become an independent nation and started a low level insurrection which our government would be forced to deal with and then Mexico invaded to "protect" the indigenous people in revolt... How would we feel?
