There is nothing wrong with thinking abortion is wrong because of your religious beliefs, there is something wrong with saying that laws should be passed to force those religious beliefs on others.

So in turn it would be wrong to force the religious beliefs towards the homeless or sick on others through legistlation.

Wait a minute, are the Christians afraid that they will be forced to help the homeless and sick here???

    That made me laugh, Bonnie...

The question for Christians (and non-Christians too, for that matter) should be "how can we help the homeless and sick most sucessfully?"

The practical aspects of helping others effectively are difficult to work out, but the moral imperative to do so is clear, especially for Bible-following Christians. The passage Ebert quotes is hardly the only "help others" portion of scripture (Tony Campolo estimates 2,000 instances of poverty and/or helping the poor being mentioned in the Bible.)

Oh, I also noticed that in the "Sheep and the Goats" passage those in prison, ie those who did something wrong to put themselves in a bad situation, are still counted among those worthy of assistance. Empathy is always a good thing.

I dont think Christians are afraid of helping. Most of the organizations that help the homeless are Christian organizations.

Flogging said that pushing religious views on other with laws about abortion is wrong. So would it not also be wrong to force people to have health care or provide welfare if the law was based on religious beliefs. Or is it convenient to use religion to get what you want when it is for a cause you support and religion supports.

Well with 48 million uninsured, millions more under insured, and the other problems....... obviously it isn't enough. And guess what, you (society) is still going to pay for the bills I have, because I'm not..... and that was for the one who HAS insurance.

    Ugly,
If no one else understands what you are trying to say, I do. I agree with you 100%.

    Bonnie,
No, I don't think Christians are afraid to have to pay for the homeless since we already do through many charities. However, I do not like being forced to give to a certain charity. I believe that is my choice. Should I be taxed more to give to a charity? I say no.

I get a kick out of folks throwing up scripture when they don't understand it. First, we don't go by the Old Testament any more. We are under Grace which was brought by Christ. All of us Gentiles, ie.. anyone who is not a Jew, would have no claim to Heaven had it not been for Christ extending His Grace toward us.

Cool, and if I saw you drowning, and there was even a little chance I might die if I saved you; I'd let you die (if I didn't know you personally). You have yours afterall, screw everybody else.

FWIW, this isn't a criticism, it is the tact I take these days. There is a chance I could scramble enough money to pay Reni's bills. But why should I? It would only hurt us. Why should I care about you and you higher bills? You don't care about mine.

This is the reason that I hope that my death - uninsured - is severely expensive (and I will fight for life just to make it so)... just so I can stick people with your attitude with the bill. And I additionally hope that if something terminal comes up, I can stick you with the credit card bill I will run up while living life to the fullest until I am no longer able.

Dog eat dog and screw everybody else (except kids - I like kids and they are the innocents)..... I kind of like the sound of that.

What say you? Given my circumstances, and the reality of our society, why should I adopt your worldview. Morality? I don't see your version of morality caring about folks like me or Reni,

How's Reni doing, by the way?
