    Default Obama and American Catholics

Here is an article written by a Kennedy. Thoughts?

Why Barack Obama represents American Catholics better than the pope does.

Sorry that the article didn't link....were you able to read?

The reason I posted this article was two fold. One to show/get discussion on how some view Obama and Two to get discussion going on "is this more a piece on how good Obama is or how out of touch the pope is".

I am not all that familiar with the Catholic church besides some of it's history....mostly the political side during the middle ages.

I think this a text book definition of conservative (resists change) vs. liberal (favors change).

The Catholic doctrine doesn't change with every gallop poll the way American politics does.

I think conservative institutions play an important role the global society, so do liberals.

One without the other would be dangerous.

Ok, now I've read it. I have personal beliefs that are daimetrically opposed to Catholocism but I'm incredibly leery when anyone tries to inject religion into politics.
I have no problem with someone basing their political views on personal beliefs that include religion but I got the impression that the author was claiming that the Pope wants to meet with the President because he wants the Catholic Church to be more involved politically.

Maybe I read that wrong but that was what I got out of it.

If the Catholic church gets more involved politically I hope we have another Martin Luther lurking somewhere. Minus the anti-semitizam.

The Pope meets with world leaders all the time. As does the the Dali lama and other spiritual leaders.

To say that this article is suggesting that the Pope is trying to get involved with US politics is a huge stretch.

It's also quite a bit ethnocentric to assume a world wide religion would choose its stances in relation to America.
