LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Sen. John Ensign of Nevada, a leading [censored] mentioned as a potential presidential candidate, admitted Tuesday he had an extramarital affair with a woman who was a member of his campaign staff. I'm shocked, stunned and crestfallen.

I just was talking to one of my conservative buddies and he asked me if the staffer was male or female. Now that was funny.

A born-again Christian, Ensign has been a member of the Promise Keepers, a male evangelical group that promotes marital fidelity.

When former Sen. Larry Craig (R-Idaho) was arrested in an airport men?s room in the summer of 2007, Ensign was among Craig?s toughest critics, saying Craig should step down because he had been charged with a crime.

?I wouldn?t put myself, hopefully, in that kind of position, but if I was in a position like that, that?s what I would do,? Ensign told The Associated Press at the time.

During the 1998 impeachment of President Bill Clinton, Ensign, then a Senate candidate, called on Clinton to resign.

The plot gets thicker and the right gets quieter. I'm sure it's just a coinkydink.

Maybe Chance can start a thread about what we law abiding, taxpaying citizens should do.

I think I'll picket in front of the Late Show.

Affairee's husband reportedly demanded cash from the Senator. This from members of the party that likes to portray itself as being for "personal responsibility" (as if no one else is). Maybe the party should take some responsibilty for all the crooks and liars who've parked themselves under the big R tent--cause there sure seems to be a lot of them.
