Default Just finished reading 'War is a Racket ' by Smedley D. Butler

This book is available through interlibrary loan and Amazon-he names names and tells of how we actually got into WW1-an alliance came over and told Woodrow wilson that the allies were 5-6,000,000,000.00 in debt to america but were sure to lose the war if the US did not get involved . A week later we were at war .

This book is available online as well -you can read it in about an hour The first chapter states 21,000. new millionaires and billionaires were made in WW1 .
The soldiers are the ones who really got screwed -$30 a month- 1/2 of whick went to their family and $6 a month for insurance .
    Definitely worth a read .

General Butler is one of the Marine Corp's revered, although I'm sure not for the book. The base in Okinawa is named after him.

It sounds like an interesting read, I may have to purchase this book to read on my next overseas trip.
