I just read an article which really bothered me -a young man in Missouri was tasered 19 times AFTER he had fallen and broken his back-the kid is hanging on but will probaly be a Quadrapolegic after this episode .
There have been 300 deaths rom these things and TASERS were invented in a basement and were only tested on Pigs . The police should be tried forhomicide but they won't even be reviewed -19 times is alot at 50,000 volts a shot.

I honestly don't see why a combination of Mase, a metal, expanding night stick, and a 45 isn't a good enough combination of weapons.
I'd like to run a study on the average age of the police officers involved in these taser deaths- I bet its under 35. (or perhaps a very low length of time spent on the force) The old timers know how to deal with the situation whereas the younger cops immediately jump to what they consider non-deadly force.
If used properly the weapons carried by police officers should suffice.
My younger brother is a cop and I would want him to carry whatever he needs to keep him safe around the crazy people he has to deal with. I know he has used a tazer a few times when it was the only way they could get close enough to the subject to subdue them.
I am sure some people over do it. We have seen enough instances in the news in the past year about that.

The other weapons police use, with the exception of the gun, are close combat weapons like the mace and the night stick. Sometimes they're not able to get close enough to use those without endangering themselves so the safest bet is to taser them. With every weapon there will be those that over do it though. I'm sure some officers have gone to far with their nightsticks as well.
I think I'd rather be tasered than sprayed with mace. I was just in a room where it was used and it burned. My friend was the one that got maced and his eyes were messed up for a few days afterwards.

When I went in the Army we had to go through the gas chamber in basic, they line you up in the chamber with your mask on then they pop the CS canister. Then they go down the line making you remove your mask and give your name rank and ssn then they let you exit to suffer the lingering effects.
Just Tazer me, I want no part of that stuff again.
CS gas is much worse than Mace (which is a trade name for CN gas). CN irritates the mucus membranes, causing the eyes to tear uncontrollably, the nose to run, and the throat to burn. The irritation of the eyes is so great that, under most circumstances, you cannot keep your eyes open. CS gas not only hits the eyes, nose, and throat, it will also cause severe nausea. It is not uncommon at all for people who have been exposed and then masked to throw up in their mask. That is really miserable. Pepper spray is, as the name implies, is Oleoresin Capsicum, the stuff that makes peppers hot. It is suspended in a liquid for spraying. This stuff not only blinds you - and seems to work even on those high on drugs - but causes such burning in the lungs that most people have to be reminded to breath after they have been sprayed. The skin burns for hours afterwards unless a contamination shower is available. I have walked into a dayroom 30 minutes after pepper spray has been used and my skin will still itch/burn 4 or 5 hours later when I get home from work. It is not uncommon to see people continue fighting after being Maced, but pepper spray puts them down - right now.
We used to have Tasers - but of course a few bad apples ruined it for every one. I wish we still had them. I would probably still be at work rather than drawing Worker's Comp - and so would several others I know of, if we had been able to stand back with a Taser rather than having to close with and physically take down a prisoner.

Drawing comp is alot like being on disability isn't it -really gets BORING -sucky boring -In prison I think guards should be issued 12 guages -and I was in prison once . As a mater of fact there were signs stating ''drop to ground if firing commences '' all over the place .
If you worked anywhere but an honor camp I think all prison guards should have access to deadly force -you're only outnumbered 500-1-too many prisoners run the prisons -or at least think they do.
