Santana better correct that madness tonight.
Mets are #1 in the majors in the first 3 innings for runs scored. Last for 9th inning runs scored against.

And when the offense gives you a 7-run cushion, the pitchers should be able to win that game. Granted, in this particular game, Pedro gave back 5 of those runs before the bullpen ever came in, but they have had way too many games where they went into the last few innings with a lead, turned it over to the bullpen, and lost. Their struggles when they have them of late have much more to do with the bullpen performance than the heart or grit of the everyday players. They've played pretty hard under Jerry Manuel with a noticeable difference in the "life" of the team since he took over.

We were at the Brickyard watching the end of the game last night...

On paper they may be superior but going by last year and what I have seen this year I would say the phillies are superior. |

It just seems the whole team tightens up and does not perform up to their abilities when things get close. |
