I have to go with the Daily Show. I think John Stewart is funnier and smarter plus he gets the best out of the guests. Colbert is cheap and I dont like the intervies at all.
Apples and oranges - or at least different types of apples. Colbert is playing a character who personifies the absurdities and contradictions of the right. Stewart reports the news with a sarcastic perspective, but expresses his real opinions. Most of the pseudo-reporters on the Daily Show are pretty funny (Samantha Bee's wit is a turn-on for me). I like both shows a lot, but probably would give Daily the edge.
It's hard to compare like Spider said. But the reporters on the daily show give it the edge, Rob Riggle,Assif Mandvi,Jason Jones,The English Guy are fantastic. The Ice Cream Off with Willie Nelson and The Metaphor off with Sean Penn on Colbear(Godless Killing Machines) was something I will always have on tape.

Colbert would be nowhere if it wasn't for his work on the Daily Show a few years back, right? Or was he popular from something else that I don't know about. Same for Steve Carrell sorta.
