| Re: Brett Favre IF Favre can play like he did last year, then he is a top five QB. There are very few good QBs in the league right now, so the question of Favre being #2 on the Packers is flat-out silly. If the Pack wants to go forward with Rodgers, then they should release Favre. Conversely, if they don't want to release him, then they'd be stupid to call Favre their #2.
I can't fault Favre for wanting to come back. You only live once, and he just wants to play. Yes, it makes for an awkward situation, but it's easy enough for the Pack to fix it - play him or release him.
Rodgers is the one guy who's getting screwed here. If he is #1 and doesn't play well, then everyone is going to be wishing that Favre was still on the team. If he is beaten out by Favre for #1, then he is going to have to wait (at least) another year.

| Re: Brett Favre It's a little sad that Favre is not ready to move on. Apparently he has not found anything else to do. One should always have something else to do.
matclone's conspiracy theory of the day: A consortium led by ESPN (with John Madden also as a major contributor) has paid Favre 5 million to do what he's doing, with an extra 5 million bonus if he actually signs with a team.

He thought he was ready to give it up, but he wasn't. Brett Favre has never missed a start in Packers uniform, and even came and played in the wake of his father's death. Brett Favre gave everything he had to the Packers franchise. He's earned some leeway. Not to mention he's flat out just a better QB then Aaron Rodgers. | They might have won the game against the Giants last year if Rodgers was playing. That was a lousy effort from Favre, and they kept it close in spite of him.
Favre is a hall of famer and a true tough guy of the sport but outside of last year he had been playing average to poor the last several seasons. He received a free pass from the media and the fans despite making terrible decisions, throwing a ton of interceptions, and at times playing like a rookie qb.
Its fine if he wants to come back but he has put the Packers in a bad situation, so its kind of lame that he is now saying he wants to leave because he does not feel welcome.

If football is his real passion, he should play as long as he wants. Last season he played at an All-Pro level. Athletes can't leave the sport and come back 20 years later. When they are done, they are done. IT's a final choice. As long as they want to play, and are capable of playing, they should. Favre is the man.

| Re: Brett Favre One, he said he was retiring (a bunch of times). Two, the prospect of being crippled because of injury. Three, because I'm sick to death of hearing about him. But, I see your point. | | |

In subzero temperatures, I don't think this would have improved. It's easy to look at any game where the PAckers lost and say "they might have won with someone else". Or they might not even have made it to OT. Bottom line, Favre was the best QB on the team.
Not to mention that Rodgers has little to no experience playing in those cold weather situations. He started playing within the system as opposed to "gunslinger" mode. Its fine if he wants to come back but he has put the Packers in a bad situation, so its kind of lame that he is now saying he wants to leave because he does not feel welcome. | The Packers do not want him back. They are bluffing him to try and get him to stay in retirement. Do you think they want to spend $12 million on a back up QB? So, if the Packers don't want him back, and they also don't want him to play for other teams, who's screwing who?

The point being everyone quickly forgot how poorly Favre had played in recent years and was quick to pump up Favres regular season last year. Yet the only game that mattered for him last year he stunk out the joint.
I would say Favre is still screwing the Packers as well as Aaron Rodgers. He made his decision he should deal with the consequences.

He actually played a pretty good game, especially considering the weather.
