Default There is a silver lining.

We are strong.
We are resilliant.
We are creative.

In the face of a neverending barrage of gloom and doom news it is good to see that not everyone is buying in to it.

From the linked article,
"Americans have spent the past year or so complaining about the rising price of everything from bread to gas, and bemoaning the ways in which it has changed their lifestyle.

Now, as the reality of a down economy begins to sink in, experts say consumers are starting to embrace the simple life: staying close to home, cooking more, planting a garden and even delighting in bargain hunting."

I have lived in a beautiful area of upstate NY for years but never took the time to explore and enjoy the wonderful things to do in the 25 mile range around my home. Always taking the big vacations and trips to far away areas while turning a blind eye to local wonders. This summer has been an adventure enjoying what is local. I knew there was a reason I migrated to this neck of the woods. I am finding I am more relaxed without all of the planning and rushing and as a family we seem to be having more quality time to do with as we please.

Would love for this to turn into a neverending good news thread if others want to join in and share. What is working for you? What silver linings are you discovering?

Some good news here for me.

The future Mrs. surprised the heck out of me and suggested that after we get married, but before we have kids, that we move out west for at least a few years. She's heard countless times how much I loved my time in the Teton area, but for her to suggest moving, without any provocation by me, caught me completely by surprise.

We're heading out to Salt Lake City for part of our honeymoon to check out the city. We've discussed selling my car, and getting a place out there close to the light rail line, to save money. To say the least, I'm looking forward to snowboarding, hiking, etc. in the Wasatch.

Great news here -i can go for pain free walks and Danville has a beautiful park and nearly everything i need is within walking distance -of course -taken literally -everything is within walking distance.

but the park is wonderful -deep woods ,large meadow -not quite as scenic as bloomington but close enough-heck -I feel so good I went fishing the other day -didn't catch anything cause almost everything is still 20 feet above normal water level ..
We were fortunate enough to have missed the severe flooods in Southern Indiana.

You are a lucky man! You both seem to share a great sense of adventure. Go for it. The Wasatch range is a great place to hike and climb.Take this time and cherish every moment.

You rolled the dice with that procedure and came out a winner. I am amazed at how fast you are rehabbing and the joy that you are now getting out of life. Great news indeed.

Wonderful! Great news that you are rehabbing so quickly. Now what you need is a dog for those walks (might I suggest a greyhound?)! Well, maybe not, but enjoy! enjoy! enjoy! You have paid for it, 10 times over, with what it took to get you here. (Fishing has nothing to do with CATCHING, everything to do with just doing!)

Oh, yeah, while we are at the happy things. You may have noticed that I keep one ""my mood" perpetually: In Love! My wife and I went out to dinner tonight (outstanding meal - Cheddar cheese & ale soup; baby greens with poached pears, apples, and candied walnuts; really, really rare prime rib; with a nice Sterling Vinyards Merlot.) We were celebrating the 37th anniversary of the day we met - which also happens to be the 37th wedding anniversary of my best friend. I was best man at his wedding (something I claim to this day) and he was best man at mine. On August 26 we will celebrate our
35th wedding anniversary. (My gift to her is a hot air balloon ride over the valley where we live.)
Those of you recently married, about to be married, or long-time married. I wish for you the happiness I have found. There is NOTHING in life more important than finding the right life-mate, and then doing whatever has to be done to preserve that relationship.

High gas prices gained me a day of working at home, so today I'm sitting in a nice shady spot on my patio with my laptop and coffee.

Same here. How nice to be away from the phone, drop ins and prying eyes.
