Hey ODH!

How old is your home and who built it? This izba looks like it was built a long time ago. Is it in the middle of nowhere or what?

The materials used on the house could weather like that in a few years in a place with strong climate change. (not that they did...)

It is about thirty years old. Supposedly, the guy who built it dug a celllar hole and lived there while he built the house. He cleared the land and used the trees he cut down to build the house. The logs are hand peeled.
The logs need to be maintained. Since that picture was taken we have had the house powerwashed (we found out later that this should not be done to logs, corn cob blasting is recommended), restained, and replaced the roof.

It is definitely in the middle of nowhere. The town has about 800 people. I live on a dirt road that about a half mile long and has five houses on it.

I like the winter...We get a decent amount of snow and it gets cold, but usually not windy, so even when it is in the low teens it is bearable.
winter does last a littel long it is cold from late October to early April.
Spring is my least favorite lots of mud from melting snow and when that clears up lots of bugs, mostly blackflies which makes the outdoors awful for about a month from mid May to mid June.
