Back in the olden days..... when Sweetness was the best back in the business.... I was in full on powerlifting mode. I would tell people that I could outlift Payton in everything except shoulder press.

But he still got all the press and big bucks.

Go figure.

Thats RIGHT! He'll pack some strength on wherever he winds up going, but you don't need to be benching three bills as a primarily wing player in the NBA. Durant is going to be a beast, what he benches won't matter.

I've never seen really tall guys in gyms. I wonder if the length of their arms doesn't make them less efficient in the bench press.

It definately does make a difference. Still, w/o benching as part of my conditioning program and doing push-ups instead I could bench over 200 when i was 5'8 and wrestling 125. I am far, far, far from being an explosive athlete as well.

Yeah, when I first read that I thought: he must weigh at least 185 and there's no way an athlete should not be able to bench at least his own weight. I believe the upper body strength gained from doing lots of pushups easily translates into a stronger bench. Likewise, pull ups aid one's ability to do presses of all sorts.
