I don't see airplanes becoming affordable for an average American even though they have been in existence for a 100 years.

In the early days of air travel, only the very wealthy were able to travel by air. I was able to pay for a ticket to Europe as a poor college student.

If you are talking about actually owing airplanes, my grandpa is far from wealthy and he has his own. I am from a middle class family and my dad is building his own. It's all about priorities. He would rather have an airplane than cable TV or a sports car. A lot of people wouldn't.
You do the math..... I'll do the alfredo!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Yeah, I am talking about an airplane the size of a car or a little bigger with 4 to 5 people in it. You would think they would be around by now for everyone to get one at a reasonable price.

No, but air travel is. That's a poor analogy because the demand for airplanes is not the same as the one for cars. It's impractical for most people to own an airplane. Cars were originally seen as the province of the wealthy until Henry Ford came along. TVs, computers, stereo systems, etc., all had huge price tags when they were introduced. That's the cost of innovation.

If somebody came up with a cheap and safe airplane, many people would get one.

Disagree big, the testing, and work to get a license is far more complicated than many people could follow through on. I assure you, a driver?s license is far easier to obtain than a pilot?s license. I have completed ground school and will tell you it is far from easy. As to the cost of fuel, that is another story, which is what is so expensive that most people can?t afford to fly their own plane.
