"Ninothchka" really pokes fun (somewhat unfairly) at the "good old days". But it's hilarious. The scene where you see the outside of the Soviet emmissary's hotel suite, and they're bringing in the food, and drink, and then you hear a really big shout when the girls go through the door... It just cracks me up.

I understand your point, but not all Americans are wealthy, or aspire to be. You apparently are one of them.
A country's character, like most people, contains a mixture of admirable and not-so-admirable qualities.

Big - you need to take a road trip across America before you make blanket statements about Americans like that. America is not just New York - you seem to need to take a vacation from the city. Go out west. See some of the national parks, drive through South Dakota, see the Grand Canyon. You need a break.

NYC has people from all over America. They all say its boring in those other places. I am not looking for a quiet life somewhere on the lake. I just would like a different attitude towards wealth.
We're not saying that you should sit by a lake for a month. Go west and drive through cornfields for days straight and see how much of America is not New York. See the majesty of the land in the west. I think you'll find different attitudes towards wealth and different kinds of people.
