Yeah I think 3 days per week of a salary with an average pay in the $15-$20 and hour range, shoud be enough to have mediacal and housing of some sort. Cars, vacations, nice clothes, electronics and so on should be the benefits of those that work more, not the other way around where jobless people have flat screen TVs but no medical coverage.

That's a screwed up system! I think capitalists are just afraid nobody will want the toys if they can have medical and housing with 3 days of work. The need for toys is very much a function of working too much.

We here work our butts off to have more things (toys), however we don't enjoy the simple things in life that God has given us. Personaly I rather enjoy my Boy's, family and friends and do with a little less toys, than have all of them, work my tall off, have a ton of stress and no time to enjoy the toys.
I made that decision twelve years ago when I decided that spending time with the family was more important than working 60 to 70 hours per week to make a 6 figure income. The cut in pay took some adjusting to (to say the least!) but once we made those adjustments I was a much happier person.
Our life is very comfortable, I got to watch my kids grow up, and we are preparing for retirement. Of course, some of that is from taking care of the income when it was 200K+.

When I lived there you needed to work only 2 days per month to pay for your apartment.

I do work 5-6 days a week, however I chose sales for the past 15 years which allows me to make my own schedule, so I do not miss anything that has to do with my boys. Unfortunately I am in financials ( mortgage division) so the money I am used to is not there right now.

Hopefully, within the next month or so I will be out of this industry and in medical or something new. If anyone knows of a good sales posistion available in NE Ohio please let me know.

I could get a place for what I make in 2 days/month, but I'd rather work more and have a nicer place, choices are great to have.

And how much did food cost? Housing should never be more than 30% of a person's income, and too many people tie way too much income into a house. I hate that I rent, and truthfully, my apt. is a little bit more than I should be paying, so I will move in October. I understand Big's idea, but what someone said earlier is right - you can't have everything.

Often these goals require more days off from work to be rested. Why am I automatically lazy?
Well as long as you dont expect others to provide you money, food or other goods and services, you're right, but being a communist, total self-sufficiency doesnt appear to be a goal of yours.

The food was affordable as well. About the same price with regard to Soviet salaries as here in America. Ice cream cone $2 in American money today. Bread also $2.

What was more expensive are cars, clothes, electronics and so on. Especially foreign made goods were very expensive.

And again Soviet medicine was very people-friendly. Ok maybe it wasn't on the cutting edge of everything but when I had appendicitis, I was operated on the same day and kept for 5 days at the hospital free of charge.

I also could go visit a clinic when I was sick and wait no longer than an hour. If I were very sick, a doctor would come to the house all free of charge.

Everyone that participated in club sports was required to take a free of charge physical every 6 months where like 10 doctors checked you out.
