The owners of the Russian clubs and the government are one and the same in Russia. They would care because they spend millions of $$$ developing them.
arm-spin Nice "spin". They are not NHL players, they are Russian players.

The problem is America is stealing Russian players from Russia:
The IIHF was close to getting Russia to agree to a deal last year but was turned down by owners of elite Russian league clubs, who demanded millions of dollars in compensation for losing top players such as Alexander Ovechkin, Alexander Semin and Evgeni Malkin.
The lack of an agreement has resulted in several court cases on both sides of the Atlantic.
Big, are you sending money to Russia to pay for the school they provided you before you left?
There's no such thing as a pretty good aligator wrestler.
I personally only went to school up to Junior high in Russia. Not anything special. My parents worked for nearly 25 years in Russia upon receiving their college education so my family paid in full for Russia's services. However, a player that receives highly specialized training and bolts as soon as he gets good is no different than a factory worker in Japan that steals 1000 newly developed computers and sells them in America for his own profit.
Yes, yes he is. I know you know this and almost feel guilty pointing this out.
Unless all those computers had hockey instructional DVDs in them. Then it's the exact same.
Do you feel the same way about international students who receive full scholarships to attend college in America, then get their degree and go home taking all the skills developed with government money with no repayment?
You do the math..... I'll do the alfredo!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!
You people are nothing but hypocrites! You don't want to pay taxes in America to develop Amateur sports but you love watching foreign players play that got developed using Russian people's taxes. Yes oil and gas in Russia belongs to Russian people and instead of doing something else with that money, some of this money is used to give opportunities to Russian people to develop their kids into hockey players, wrestlers and so on!
How is America stealing anything when Russians are voluntarily fleeing that crappy country in absolute droves?
Russian government needs to treat its state developed athletes as a commodity. You want to go to America, pay a percentage of what you will earn there.
