Default Mars lander down safe and sound

First "touchdown" landing in 30 years.
I am 49, bald, ugly, and don't own a single cool thing. Kids like me though.

Good thing the Lander landed in Mars safe and sound.
I am very excited on what they will discover there.
I have my wrestling idols on my wall.

Does anyone else think this is a gigantic waste of money? I do understand that this money probably wouldn't go to fund a poor kid's college education, or to support a sick elderly woman, but there's got to be something better to spend whatever insane amount of cash they laid out for this.
That being said, I hope it gets justified somewhat with some sort of worthwhile discovery (although I suspect something will be made up, regardless, for justification purposes).

I agree. Even though I am an engineer and think what they are doing is pretty cool technology-wise, I think the money could be better spent.
I have heard the stastics that for every dollar spent on NASA, somehting like $10 worth of economic growth are generated. I have trouble believing that is accurate.

For every dollar spent in Iraq.......

Do you people always do something only if reward is 100% guaranteed?
