The NBA beat the NHL nearly 4 to 1 in ratings.
I assumed the NBA was more popular, but I didn't think it was that much more popular.

Problem was it rained, so the race had to be delayed. They had a camera shot of raindrops splashing on the track, with announcers doing the usual filler talk.
The raindrops got better ratings than the NBA game.

Until the Hurricanes arrived in NC, nobody around here paid any attention to hockey. And really, not many people paid attention to the Canes until the first time they made the playoffs. They gained a lot of bandwagon fans when they won the Stanley Cup, but it's still nowhere close to the basketball frenzy that exists in the South.

I assumed the NBA was more popular, but I didn't think it was that much more popular. | Most NHL games are televised on a channel Vs that hardly anyone has. Kind of hard to rebuild a casual fanbase especially after losing an entire season to the lock out.

All of those people watching the NBA just don't know what they're missing. Nothing matches the intensity of the NHL playoffs in any pro sport.
However, many if the viewing audience are sheep who have fallen victim to the marketing machine that is espn when they sign a tv contract with any of the leagues.
Then again, I'm a big hockey fan who's never watched an entire NBA game in my life. To really become a hockey fan though, you have to watch it live. If all you've seen is what they show on TV, then you're missing half of the game.

This past semester I went to 4 hockey games after not going for a loooong time and I missed it. Cedar Rapids has a team so I'd like to get season tickets. Right now there is nothing on so I am in fact watching the b-ball game. Forgive me.

Of the first 21 projected picks, only ONE, yes ONE could drink alcohol legally. Six of the top 30 overall are also legal. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/draft2...ckDraft-080520

In Nwe England almost every HS has a team and it is every bit as popular as basketball. It was almost unheard of for a HS to have hockey team when I lived in PA. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
