Finding results is tough, but Duke beat Loyola 12-7 in the first round and Maryland knocked off Denver 10-7.

I'm DVRing what I expect to be an Ohio State loss to Cornell. I'm at work and we don't have espnu on the ER lobby televisions.

I knew they had a fantastic offense, but Cornell's ability to win face offs was a worry since that single stat can dictate so much as far as possession is concerned. I certainly didn't expect that kind of a score with one quarter to play.

It's a final Buckeyes 15-7, in Ithaca too.

Heck of a win. Too bad Duke awaits them next. Not saying they can't beat the devils, but I'll be very surprised if they keep it to a couple of goals.

Navy knocked off North Carolina 8-7. Navy up 8-6 with 60 to go. UNC scored at :51. Wicked face off drew 15 secs off the clock then UNC came up with the ground ball. UNC couldn't get the tying goal. 3 shots wide then a miss throw sent the ball out to midfield. UNC picked it with :06 left but couldn't get off another shot.

Nice! Way to go Navy! That's two unseeded teams advancing. I hope I got that one on my DVR. I had my fiance set it, so who knows.

I've only watched one lacrosse game - when I was stationed in Baltimore I went to the Naval Academy to watch them play John Hopkins. I had absolutely no idea what was going on, but a Naval Commander sitting behind me was kind enough to explain the basics of the game. As near as I can tell, you give a bunch of guys 3-foot long clubs and let them smack each other. Great game!

Once you watch it for a while, you pick up lots of the nuances of the game. It's a lot like wrestling in that way. To the novice, it doesn't look like there's any tactics at all, but eventually you start to see actual set plays and the way scoring chances get set up. You also see how teams differ in their approach. Sorta like hockey, it's much better in person than on TV. They tend to focus on the ball carrier too much on TV so you don't see the cutters and off the ball movement that's really the basis for most offensive schemes.

Watching the game reminded me a little of soccer, a little of basketball, and a lot of hockey. But what I really remember (30 years later) is a bunch of guys smacking each other with clubs. With that, who needs nuance? What would hockey be like if high sticking were legal?
